You must can't read man. I said NET $2000 before doing regular freight BEFORE I started my dedicated freight. Do you understand what NET means?? Or did they not teach you that at SNI. Lol. Wow. Net, like throw a net to catch fish, whatever you bring back in the net is what you actually keep, not gross. Smh!

The things that have lead me to this change in my trucking life is :
im just tired of being someone's added capacity ( which everyone is ) but I hate the fact I'm told what I will or won't do and when I can go home etc .
I choose the route of freedom and both options give you that option . It's just which is the better fit for my business model I guess is gonna be the decision -
The positive on LS I'd say is this :
option to eventually get your own trailer and bump up to 72% and easily be able to maintain a van trailer with the extra 7% .
SNI no such option but plenty of Drop and swap -
of course it's completely up to you! That's the beautiful thing about running business. I came to Landstar so I could control my business. To me, driving for miles, or driving any more than I need to is not working smarter. There's so many short loads that pop up here where you can net $400+ on a 100-200 mi trip, and boom!, you just worked smarter. Plus I always liked the idea of being in a all owner operator fleet, then you know the high$ freight isn't just getting pushed to the company drivers while they just keep you hanging on with SOME decent freight and driver amenities like showers at a terminal. Really?? The last thing on a true business man's mind is a company provides shower, he wants to PROVIDE HIS OWN! ON HIS OWN PROPERTY... Just my opinion tho...scythe08 Thanks this.

It's all personal decisions. I think SNI would be more simple. But just like anything in life, the more you do something the more in a groove you get. LSTR is super simple to me. But that's just me. I've always wanted to be here, and I am. Lol. So I'm no good for you man, as my opinion is biased. Good luck to your decision tho!

Jar-Head Thanks this. -
right I got that it was net and that is why I still said that isnt all that great. Obviously if you were grossing 2,000 then what would you be taking home 40 dollars a week after fuel?
one thing sni has taught me is to speak in a covilized non insulting manner which if your manner of retorting to someones teply to your comment says anything then its true what they say about LS brokers and operators being bottom of the barrel.
anyways Jarhead man.. I dont even drive for SNI right now but I have access to their load board via a friend which is why I gabe you the info that I did. I work with a local company since my father fell ill and am looking to going back once hes better.
SNI if nothing else is a class act company that sincerely cares about their employees. This coming from someone that worked for them as a company driver and IC. To me that alone is enough to go with a company.
As far as coming across empties.. Alot of people dont even bother taking empties much of thw time because many shippers dont enforce it but as someone from a military family thay was taught integrity.. I always did so because I didnt want to leave the burden on others just to get a short cut to a load. -
Like I said I can see the positives in both systems . But I have to agree the SNI system does look easier outside looking in

At either can you have your own :
1. Physical Damage
2. Occ / Acc
3. Bobtail / NTL
i tend to try to keep my own insurances because believe it or not I can get a better rate through First Guard in number 1&3 than the larger carriers give out to O/O's maybe it's only 15-20 on phys damage and only a 1.00 on bobtail but that's still a savings to me . In this business I have learned convenience has it price sometimes and the ability to have it settlement deducted does also . Sure it's easier but it saves me the above by out sourcing my insurance . OC/AC is about a wash no real savings except going paperless billing but it's pennies .
But pennies do add up to dollars
any insight on insurance would be great for both companies -
Here's a total of what I pay:
Base-plates, license and registration: $31.58
Non-Trucking auto liability: $8.05
Physical Damage: $52.01
Workers Comp: $35.45
Physical Damage buy back: $4.46
Bodily injury / Property damage buy back: $3.95
Cargo buy back: $1.58 -
Look man, Im not going to sit here and bash on Jar-head's post. You said your buddy was net'ing 1600$-1800$ after truck payments etc, isn't that less than what I was originally saying?? And as far as SNI teaching you anything, they taught you how to get ROLLED over knight rider. No harm meant to you, but seriously if SNI got you that whipped then they hacked into your mind lol. I say this because there's a BIG difference in being civil/professional/upright compared to what your talking about which is "nice" which the etymology of the word nice means foolish; and as far as bottom of the barrel, that's your opinion, considering most everyone carrying an orange trailer gets the least respect on the road. But hey, that's just from my experience. Your probably just a double agent for SNI, that doesn't get paid for it. Oh! The irony.
Im not saying SNI choice is a bad move, all I'm saying is, I was at once deciding btwn the two, and I'm beyond glad I choose Landstar. There's so much opportunity still here.scythe08 Thanks this.
