Vitamix - makes smoothies, soup, ice cream. I don't mean to sound like a commercial, but to me it would seem to be the ideal appliance for a truck. A trucker could make the best guacamole or salsa you've ever had - right on the road with no clean up. Hopefully this helps someone, ok - commercial over. -
WOW... it's interesting to say the least the kind of "foods" you guys talk about... next thing someone will suggest is astronaut food...
I am a female, didn't serve... but I came from Brasil, where we cook the basic, simple way with basic food: grains, vegetables and meat for those who eat that. I don't, I have been vegetarian for over 30 yrs.
Once a week or so, I stop at a Walmart, do my groceries, buy fruits, yougurt, milk, vegetables, legumes, nuts, etc... During hometime, I stock up on some items in bulk, brown rice, natural, organic granola, pasta, some organic beans in can (not really nutritional though) and some organic vegetarian soups in cans...
Keep all my perishables in a cooler with ice that I buy every day. No refrigerator, no microwave I cook on a burner, the good old fashion way. Some things, like brown rice I cook in the portable stove that plugs into the 12 volt outlet.
Cook enough for 2 meals maximum. Don't fry anything. Use minimum oil, salt, pepper and spices. Set my "kitchen table" on my bed with a thin board covered with a cloth. Slice the vegetables on a cutting board and cook on the floor of the truck. It takes no more than one hr.
There's minimum mess left to clean cause I don't cook meat, no eggs, almost no oil. Wipe everything clean with paper towels, and sometimes wash whatever in the truck stop sink next to coffee area or with the water that I carry in my gallons. Wipe and sweep the floor every day and don't bring shoes in the sleeper berth area where I cook.
I am middle age, healthy, underweight, but have a lot of energy thanks to my diet.
Cooking in the truck takes time, discipline, planning and much more... so... not everybody is willing to do it... But the health benefits and the money saving is worth it.Lady K, Charlami, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
