There are so many roads now too and all the interchanges that go with them. Exit numbers have been replaced with names honoring people, makes it harder to tell where you are at when go down the highway, leads to the general where am I scenerio. I think everytime we went around Atlanta, there was at least one car or truck bounced off the walls because of speeding. Cars in general are a pain, tv stations tout truckers as being a criminal, now instead of respecting truckers and giving them wide berth a car wants to play gamesu. Old towns with roads and businesses that had only enough room for a 48' trailer to make it safely. CDL mills

Occam suggests poor hiring decisions. I don't think we can make too much of the experience of 1 guy.
I think it can be summed up by "motor vehicles inspire stupidity". The evidence is certainly overwhelming. The typical 18-wheeler is operated no differently than the typical 4-wheeler, because there's just a 4-wheeler in the driver's seat.

The human being is not naturally a rational animal, we tend to let ourselves be ruled by emotion, hence "buyer's remorse" (And the completely nonsensical notions constantly forwarded by politicians. The typical Duhmerican does not recognize a gross non sequitur if beat over the head with it for many years. The human tendency to form conclusions based on woefully insufficient evidence, then to seek evidence to support it and ignore all evidence to the contrary is well documented in psychology).

People motor habitually, because they are, naturally, resistant to change.

Motor vehicle operation incites our basest human instincts. "Slow" = "weak". "Different" = "weak". "Slower than everyone else" = "weak + losing".

The instant 1 hand touches the door handle, rational thought, what there might be of it, comes to a screeching halt.

Well then as George Carlin once said, I think, therefore I am... I think?

Accidents happen to people of all skill levels or they would just be called "rookie mistakes".

I think its a lot like marriage today, heck...invent your own. People don't plan to work for one company for life. Instead of fixing a problem to make it work our society now just disposes of the problem and moves on. Accidents? Theres insurance for that. Just a different world.

in today's society it is never the individual who is held responsible for their actions.... personal responsibility for ones actions is no longer taught.

So when a unemployed person, who depends on the government is told they have to take this training for truck driving, they do it, without thinking about it... they need to keep the money rolling in... They really don't want to be a truck driver, but that is what the government told them to do... so they do it and hate it... and it is not their fault, it is the governments fault for making them work.

They don't pay attention at school, or while in a truck with a "trainer". Then they go solo, get overwhelmed, don't know how to trip plan, read a map, and depend on technology, instead of their brain to get them through...

The companies continue to make more and more nit picking rules and the government continues to make more ridiculous regulations to deal with the dumbing down of the american public. Personal thought and ingenuity is not rewarded, but chastised.

Insurance was originally for the unexpected. Today people expect every minor mistake they make to be paid for by someone else.

It is NEVER the GPS's fault you choose to drive down that road. It is your fault.

Those people who take responsibility for themselves, learn what they can about the job, and strive to do the best they can everyday... They do not claim an accident is when you total a truck, and an incident is when you just back into a hood.... They own all mistakes, and learn from them. Failure is always an option, it is YOUR decisions that lead to success and failure.

The turnover rate in trucking is high. The turnover rate in other sectors of the economy is also increasing. Part of that is the instant rewards expected today, and the thought that the grass is greener else where... until they get else where, and find out the grass looks greener due to all the bull excrement that has been spread.
