    Good Day to all.

I received my CDL-A in January of this year (2014). I was hired by Swift and spent almost a month and a half as a "team" driver with wheels rolling 24/7. I logged over 20,000 miles (myself) during this training period. Swift then tested me, upgraded me to solo driver, and told me I would have to run OTR for at least 3 months. This did not suit well with the family, so I left Swift and went with a small (less than 25 trucks) local company (Garber Farms, Inc. in Mount Joy, PA). I loved the people, the ethics, but unfortunately after two weeks, I had to resign as the product I was hauling was cocoa beans and even with a walking floor trailer, climbing in and out over and over (via a rope with knots in it) was a bit too much for this "old salt". I did great climbing the knotted rope in high school and in boot camp, but 40 years later, not so much.

I am seeking an intermodal, local, dedicated, or possibly a NE regional company driver position that is not slip seat. I seek a company that can appreciate the discipline and dedication and hard work ethic I learned after many years of military service. A company that understands the balance between work and time at home.

I live in the Lancaster PA area, and can bring not only my CDL-A (with two months experience), but HAZMAT, tanker, and doubles/triples endorsement to my new company. I also have an active TWIC (expires in 2019), so I am good with seaports and rail yards as well. In-addition to the above, I will also bring that "can-do" attitude and willingness to learn that is a trait of most, if not all military veterans.

Care to take a chance on me? The military did for over 21 years.

I may be contacted on here, or at robrien@ptd.net. Upon contact, I will provide phone number, resume, and any other information you desire.

    Thank you for your time.

I think you may have challenges with 2 short term positions. Most companies start with OTR because there is less backing and often less challenging backing and turns. This allows you time to develop these skills. I run OTR swing by house when possible for the night or even meet for dinner. Many local are 12 hours plus commute and sleep time. Doesn't leave much family time either. Trucking industry isn't very family centered. After a couple of years better opportunities become available.

Maybe good to try Swift again, they should rehire you. There is much bad written about Swift, they are a training company and give many drivers there start. As such many who don't make it blame the company. Same for most of the training companies. Trucking is much more challenging than it appears.

Changing driving jobs to often will make it challenging to get the next company to hire you. Be prepared to pay the dues to get to the better positions.
