I guess some people call it "half strapping" it's what I do. I'll take some pictures. You're talking like when people fold up their excess strap in about 16in folds then tuck it between their strap and trailer frame?

Well i do half pulls, pull the strap through the winch then wind, halfs the length halfs the wind. But i normaly use my 2 1/2 foot winder no drill no busted knuckles hand made and best of all FREE!

Yes exactly. I appreciate it. Like I said I've pulled a flat for years and I always said I'd ask one how to do it but now that I sang to I don't see anyone doing it at all. -
I sent SHC a video once. I'll snap a few photos

If you want I can PM you my number -
Ok. I'll have to see if I still have it

Couple thoughts:
i keep my straps on the winches, it don't look as professional but I do take them on n off a dozen n a half at a time at least 2x a day some days.
I throw the hook over top on things that don't get damaged (lumber) and roll them up and throw for more fragile stuff, so that the hook isn't slapping into the other side.
I got to Bluelinx, quite a few of them. I've seen the signs but as of yet nobody had anything to say about it.
i am careful throwing the metal end... Few years back a fellow had a skid of concrete against his headboard. He threw a chain ended strap over, I waited n like a dummy walked over n hooked it for him. Felt my teeth chatter n watched another chain n hook hit the deck in front of me. Didn't hurt much, sure took a lot of skin off though. I didn't mention it to my boss right away out of embarrassment; but he caught on pretty quick when the big flap of skin peeled back n started dripping blood down my face.
is it hard to believe I used to be stupider than I am now? Lol
As a younger fellow I watched a guy try to throw a hook end over a couple pallets of bagged mulch. Short wheelbase daycab, hook come around and smashed out his side window for him. Definitely not an impression I'd want to make regarding professionalism.
If I went for longer periods or distances between uses I'd remove straps from winches when not in use. -
I don't even have any ratcheting winches to keep straps on, I feel left out with all these cool gadgets.

Im just here visiting..Can someone/anyone ? Tell me the proper way to strap,
when not throwing hooks over?Do you climb up,and over and gently lay hooks?
Im only asking because I have only ran one flat bed load,as a favor.
No training, and I was slinging hooks.
Im seriously thinking about applying for a flatbed job,and getting some proper training.
Any tips are appreciated
Edit``Just saw Ruthless post on throwing rolled up soft end.I never thought of that, cause
the straps were rolled up on winches already.Never knew takin em off was an option
