I have a wonderful set of jumper cables in my tools. It cost me $300 from a Tractor supply store. They are nice. I got them so I could help any other truck out there that needs it. So far, I never have been lucky enough to use them. I was raised in a time where help out someone was a great privilege. For me it still is. I am sure Skateboardman feels good about being able to help. I am sure that he also took the time to explain to the other driver what the problem was. I makes one feel nice to make the world a better place. Be part of making our world better. Be like Skateboardman.
saw a sad sad thing today.

Way to go Skateboardman. Nice thing to do.
I used to have a nice set of cables and somebody stole them. Never replaced them. -
actually, i was on my way to load, but that wasn't my main concern. i couldn't believe the poor guyhad been trying to get a jump for 12 hours because the guy had his own cables evenblairandgretchen Thanks this.
-
Sorry, but I have a hard time believing that he was there for 12 hours and not one driver would have given him a jump. I think he was telling stories to you.
-
I can believe it. How many times have we passed a broke down rig on the road with hardly anyone calling out to the driver? It's a me, me, me civilization these days, no one has time to help another person out.
-
I can see it on the shoulder since most of the time they do not answer when you call them. It is not safe to even consider pulling on the shoulder anymore. I have watched other big trucks almost hit things on the shoulder, so I would not pull off. Not to mention the idiot cars.
But, in a rest area, I have my doubts on the story or a company letting a load sit that long. -
roadmedic, the guy was trying to get home and was under a load. you can tell when a guy is about at his wits end, and he did have two bad batteries of only 3 in the truck, and with it raining like it was today in new York state, i don't believe he would be getting soaked to the bone if he had reason to be bullcrapping. i got a little damp myself
i got to tell ya sir, you thinking that way is a symptom of the problem, everyone thinks someone else is up to something and isn't on the up and up.
that's why many people walk on by someone in need , theyre always suspicious of others.warrior81, flash1994 and DaReallyst Thank this. -
Then you, good sir, should thank your lucky stars that you have never worked for the kind of cheap skate bandit that I have in the past. The type of skinflint who would rather try to force the driver to schill out for a tow truck or jump start than ever spend so much as a stinking dime on basic truck maintenance.
Yes, I have worked for said bandit a time or two....it's one of the many reasons I've developed a bad attitude towards a field I used to love... -
No.
I just believe most tell stories. I would have given a jump or helped. -
Then you have found the reason change is needed. If the driver was being paid by the hour I doubt he would be there as long.
Very sad what the industry is now.
