Former May Drivers Lounge...

Hey guys,
I remember Scooter and Efon, Notanotherwheelholder, trucker steve (whom I got confused for a few times). Believe it or not I miss my time at May Trucking. Despite all the issues they had, they sure seemed less ate up than other truck companies. I didn't like how I was let go and they way I was treated. Nor did I care for a couple people who started working at Denver. Other than that, I would recommened this company to ANYONE starting out driving. SO what's new at MTC? I feel bad for that driver in the video. I'm sure he lost everything in that fire. I hope it wasn't his fault so maybe he could keep his job. I just wanted to say hi! I'm thinking about getting back out there since work has sucked since I left May. I'm thinking about possibly driving for Western Express.

 

Nothing against May but somewhere around the '11 to '12 May changed. I think I was one of the 1st to go, a lot of the veteran drivers were gone. I used to see A LOT of their trucks. Now I hardly see any. Is it true May lost a couple big contracts, like Americold?

 

No I still pull Americold loads.

 

Ok good. I wasn't sure. I had they lost Americold but wasn't sure if it was true or not.

 

The on time record helps determine how many loads a company gets.

May tried to recruit me back, and I gave them a chance to step up, but they fell far short. I'll be going back OTR soon, but not with May. Really, even though my overall experience there was good, I know I'll be happier exploring the many other options out there before making a choice. Besides, I'm comfortably in a position to leverage my perfect driving record, full endorsements, TWIC card, clean CSA, passport, and experience for far more than the $.37/mi they offered. I've decided I'm done with the bigger carriers and their micro-management. There are plenty of well-run smaller companies that will pay me well to do my job, without hovering over me and screaming over the qualcom when the truck hits 64 at the bottom of an east coast roller... And all those "safety" gadgets grabbing control of the truck from the driver bothers me quite a bit.

I am glad I started there, had a good DM (Kim out of Layton, he pretty much left me alone because he knew I would get it done), and a nice Cascadia for most of my time there. Good place for a new driver to start I suppose. At least it was 2 1/2 years ago. Hope everyone is doing well out there!

 

Yes sir, I am that guy... Drove Petroleum Tankers for about 10 months here in Portland, but the toxic load was too much and the pay nowhere near what it needs to be for such work. Plus, Oregon does not require employers pay truckers O/T (being unskilled labor and all), and so they did not. Of course, they had to out of their Seattle yard. Could have made $15-20k more doing the same job 200 miles away for the same company. Or gone over to one of the other tank companies around here that do pay O/T though not required to, plus a better starting wage. I mean really, why would anyone drive these things when they can make far better money delivering food? I'm going back OTR to save money again (spending a lot being home every day), plus with my experience and record I should actually make a decent wage this time out. We'll see. If not, McLane Food service is hiring, with an average wage of $32/hr they say. But with rent, commute expenses, car maintenance, and all the fun stuff to do that costs $$$, well...

Looking for a smaller company to go with, and there are plenty around here. We shall see.
