Hi,
I have a problem with my Freightliner FLD with a Cummins ISX. It will start for a few minutes until the diesel in the filter is finished then cut off. Once i fill up the filter again it will start and cut off again once the fuel is finished. But when i disconnect the fuel lines and put them into a gallon/container of diesel it will start and run very well. It wont misfire or cut off. But once i connect the pipes back to the tank it will only start for a few mins. I have checked the pipes for leaks but the don't seem to leak or have any hole on them.
Any help will be appreciated.

CK. fuel valve at inlet line on filter that keeps the fuel from running back when eng. is off, it may/be pluged ?
-
I have to check that

The suction fuel line(s) from the tank(s) has a hole in it and it is sucking air, or the pick up tube inside the tank is cracked or broken. If your truck is a little older, I would suspect the lines have some dry rot and they are sucking air.

Check valve I had the same problem..

ISX should have a lift pump. do you hear it running?
-
How do you explain why his engine stays running if he runs a fuel line from a bucket?baha Thanks this.

The fuel doesn't leak out. It stays running opposed to when the fuel in the bowl leaks out the truck shuts off.

What year is your truck? We had a similar situation with our 2008 T660. I forget the details but IIRC it would fire off the funnel but not when we connected the lines back up. Turns out the batteries were a little bit low on charge. They were good enough to crank but not good enough to run the fuel pump. You need something like 12.0 v to run the pump or something.
Try charging up the batteries. -
I will check the valve first. I guess it if it was a pipe it wouldn't start and run with fuel from a container/bucket. When the ignition is switched on the pump can be heard. But once fuel lines are connected to the tank it wont start or it may start and cut off within a few seconds.
