I don't see how anyone makes a living there... Starting pay is in the 24 cpm range, the trucks only go 62. The average annual earning potential is only $27K.

    Eff that!

I drive for Munoz Trucking. We are small by comparison but we manage to keep our customer base happy. Rare that we have to sit and wait on loads. There are exceptions of course, like yesterday, I had to wait over 24 hours on one in Laredo but it was due to the load being held up by Customs. I think MVT's problem is they've grown too big too fast. I remember when they only had their small terminal in Las Cruces, NM on Picacho Ave and hauled produce.

Has Royal Jones managed to get himself out of trouble with the state of Oregon?

Hours of Service Violations 73% with serious violations within the last 12 months of an investigation. Not to mention they are being targeted at weigh stations for inspections.

Maybe they need to teach their drivers how to run more than one logbook, or just raise their shipping rates a little, and pay a little better so there's no need for their drivers to break the law in order to make a living.

Some companies basically get your IRS per diem tax deduction at the end of the year for you from the IRS. They give part of it to you (the driver) in your paycheck throughout the year. Therefore the company is actually paying you much less out of their own pocket to drive for them. Look at the taxable gross money on a pay stub and divide it by however many miles you got for that paycheck, and that is actually the cpm they are paying the driver out of their own pocket. The company maybe paying you 40 cpm, but they are actually only paying you closer to 30 cpm by using the drivers tax deduction. Basically they are scamming the driver out of their tax deduction. This is called a rip off for the driver, and you have the legal right to opt out of it.

    6 Speed Thanks this.
