Last Friday, my overnight shift ended at 2:45 AM. I took my 10 hours, then switched to elogs for my next shift, which started at 5:00 PM. How do I show a switch from paper to electronic in the middle of the day?
How do I log this correctly?

I've always asked my company to show me how.Not too long ago my elogs went down so switched to paper went to the shop the next day on paper and switched back to elogs.

§ 395.15: Automatic on-board recording devices.
2) The device shall provide a means whereby authorized Federal, State, or local officials can immediately check the status of a driver's hours of service. This information may be used in conjunction with handwritten or printed records of duty status, for the previous 7 days.

your missing the Point Driver, he asking how to show it on his logs the switch. Not the law behind it.
If nobody has told you how, this is what I would do. Put a Note on paper logs and if can on the elogs (never used them so I do not know if can) at the time of switch noting the switch. But again that is what I would do, based on Government Log keeping experience prior to Trucking. (US Coast Guard were you logged everything)70s_driver Thanks this. -
I don't know where either of you got the idea the switch needs to be logged... but maybe I misunderstand the question.
Maybe it's "How do I show on elogs what I've already logged since midnight on paper?"... and that seems simple and direct enough; duplicate the paper log from midnight to the point of elogging, discard the paper. -
No. My question is "How do I show on paper that I switched to elogs?"
-
Wouldn't he have to duplicate his full shift from the paper log? He didn't state what time he started his paper log shift but wouldn't all of the hours he worked on paper logs have to be shown so his elog would record his accurate hours available? Im not sure, just asking?

Go to down to line three and in comments write switched to elog.....and where you were when you switched and just put a line across line 3 as if your still driving till when you go off duty
pattyj and 70s_driver Thank this. -
Id say just log on paper, what your elog shows that you've done. Of course if you have less than 15 minutes on your elog, it would have to be shown as 15 minutes on your paper log. If your driving time shows 6 hours and 40 minutes, youd have to log it as 6 hours and 45 minutes on your paper log
-
By the same token, if your elog shows 6 hours and 32 minutes, Id show 6 hours and 30 minutes on paper because youre allowed a 15 minute tolerance
