Sitting right here.... Where are you? Lol....
Currently I am at the J in Wytheville, shutting down for the night. I have come to fall in love with a dish called "Eggs in a Basket", served at Denny's. Covered with some white gravy? MMM MMM MMM. Yeah, maybe not the healthiest meal, but man, is it good. Granted, I don't eat it on a regular basis.... but you know how cravings can be.
Things have been going very well for me here at Smith. I'm getting good miles, good freight lanes, and the paychecks are taking care of themselves. It is interesting how I keep seeing drivers out here for Smith, who also are having a similar experiences. I realize that EVERY company out there has problems and disgruntled employees, but I have yet to meet one. And yes, there are some things that I would change if it was MY company, but it's not, and those things are not big enough issues to make me miserable. All in all, I get treated well, I have a good line of communication with the company, I don't ever feel like I had been "forgotten", and I always know what I am doing at least one trip out (sometimes two). They have a "system" that they use, and it is actually very easy to master (if you are capable of following directions), and for me, it works well.
I have been kinda bouncing back and forth, north and south, loading and unloading in PA, NC, VA, MD, SC, and GA... which happen to be some of my favorite areas to run. Been doing some night running lately due to the appointment schedules, but I am ok with that too. Easy to find parking during the day, and not so many drivers on the road at night. So, 2 months into the company (yeah, I know... the honeymoon), everything is moving along nicely. And in all honesty, it actually keeps getting a little better, which is bound to happen as you learn the company, and they learn you.
So, in essence, I-95, I-81, I-77, and I-99 are the roads I have been running lately. I'm kinda easy to spot Catfish. Black Pete 386, #2001. And I usually have the CB on, so if you see me. Gimme a holler.... I'll pull the yellow brake

Well I am glad that you are liking your company. I have been looking for your truck but all I see are Lone stars or Coronado's. Now we know what lanes to look for you in.

So, what's the freight like?
A lot of NE, as in which states is it most concentrated? Don't mind the NE so much, but if I'm gonna be in Boston every other day, what's the point?
Lots of drop and hook, or live unloads?
Thanks. -
I probably do about 50/50 drop and hook.... Maybe a little more than that, but it is a safe estimation. BUT, it seems, that with the exception of 2 or 3 live loads, most have been loaded very quickly (1 hour or less). Now, that just might be me being lucky, but that has been my experience so far.
I've been "around" Boston 5 or 6 times, but never actually in it. Closest I've gotten is about 20 miles. Honestly, there have been a few "oh my gosh... why am I doing this" moments when pulling up to a dock, but I had that with other companies too. All in all, the freight is good and the miles are pretty decent. We do haul a bunch of paper, and it's heavy, but not illegal. Recently, I have been hauling some pretty light stuff (under 20K), but tomorrow I am picking up a 42k load. So it varies. Luck of the draw. -
So now I can officially say I have a "stalker"? LOLpopcorn169 Thanks this.
