Seat belts....do you always "buckle-up for safety"

Well I'm off to the gym..With no seatbelt. My life.My choice. I wonder if there are any statistics of those "saved" wearing a seatbelt-who are now quadriplegics? Gee. That sounds fun..

It is surprising how many drivers get ticketed still for no seat belt. Check out your company in the basics score card.

 

Some carriers with fire drivers if they don't practice their seatbelt policy.Then customers will trun drivers in if they don't have their belt on while going thru the parking lot.I've delivered to a few customers that wasn't playing when they enforce the seatbelt law.

 

Vehicle insurance often does not cover damages due to gross negligence, or the payout is drastically reduced.

In 1973 my best friend from HS and his GF were injured in a crash with a drunk driver, who just happened to be their driver, and who ended up dead.

Stevie got 1/2 of 1 buttock sliced off, his GF and future wife was not so lucky. She broke a leg in 13 places between hip and knee, suffered from it for the rest of her life and died young, in her sleep, late 40s, "natural causes".

After that, Stevie got lost... wandered from couch to couch for 3 years, then just laid down on one one night and died in his sleep, at 53, from "natural causes".

While their deaths could not be directly attributed to the crash, I can't help but feel it must have been a significant contributing factor.

Their settlement was a whopping $20K, and they were lucky to get that after 5 years of negotiations, because; 1. They got in a car with a driver they knew (or should have known) was drunk, and 2. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

$20K covered ~half their medical bills, but their credit was trashed to make up for it. They lived in the same rented rundown trailer, in the same rundown trailer park, and drove the same rundown car, all their adult lives.

I must be the only person alive who knows many people seriously injured or killed in car crashes. I started to make a list a few years ago, but after 5 minutes it was too depressing.

 

Yeah, that something is you. The premise of wearing a seat belt is not solely for the protection of the wearer.

It gets confused as such by motorists who like to believe they bear no responsibility for the safety of anyone but themselves.

 

Wait , so I am a bit confused . Are you saying me wearing my seatbelt is gonna save someone in another vehicle if we get in a accident ?

Seems unlikely you will understand, you seem determined not to or you'd thunk of it yourself. Lol.

Lets assume you are ejected from the vehicle onto the roadway. Motorists attempting to dodge your body, alive or dead, may crash.

Let's assume you are sideswiped and are driven into the median. If you think you can hang on and maintain control, give it a shot on a vacant stretch of interstate in the wide-open portion of the W at your typical cruising speed.

What could happen? Obviously nothing.

Always remember, you owe your profession no professionalism, that comes with the check.

 

Trucks cabs are so flimsy, if you roll one, it could be safer without a belt. And seatbelts in a parking lot??? what a joke!!

 

Ok I can see that but .....
I am the person's that always has a outlook to both sides.
now humour me for a moment.
Say , I am going down the hwy , no one is around and something happens I roll over . Now I am on my side I have a broken arm ( seatbelt is on , but the eject button is jammed ) had I not been wearing it I could with my busted up arm climb over all the things in the cab to get out like: seats , dash .
Now on my side broken arm can't get out , I smell fuel leaking , and hear cracking ( like sparks )
That the kind of person I am , I always have a outlook on both sides .

Oh and I don't have a knife to cut the belt .
