Every Coleman I've purchased, three I believe, has failed due to the plug melting.
Any ideas? I'm tiring of ice, particularly as the weather warms up.zoekatya, OPUS 7 and Rooster1291979 Thank this. -
I tried to replace the fan in one of those and it was a pain in the butt. I have 5 fans left. I bought six in eBay. I'm getting the warranty next time.

I haven't had that problem with the Coleman but I am in a fairly new truck. That is a resistance problem caused by a loose connection. I anticipate replacing the plug eventually. They are pretty cheap. I replaced the plug on a smaller rubbermaid cooler with the roadpro ones that they sell at truck stops. Just make sure the fuse is the same size.

BTDT.....this has happened to me in three different trucks. I finally decided the heck with it...but buying ice gets old too. I've even considered getting a real fridge...or stop eating all together.
Like Alice Kramden told Ralph one night...."You wouldn't waste away if you stayed awake for nine years!". I suspect I could go without eating about the same length of time! -
It was easy. 4 screws for the plastic cover, then 4 screws for the fan. They screw straight into the heat sink fins. The fan that came out had 2 wires one black and 1 red. The fan I linked had 3 wires going to a male connector for the motherboard. It also came with a female connector to change it to a 4 pin power supply connection. That connector had a red and back wire between the 2 connectors. I cut it, spliced those 2 wires to my cooler and now have a female connector if I ever need to replace the fan again. It took all of 15 minutes.

My first one melted the plug in 2 weeks. The New one I've had 6 months and I use the 110 adapter plunged into a surge protector off my inverter no problems yet.
48Packard Thanks this. -
Domectic but you'll need to spend 400-600 for a good one chest style. Iowa 80 sells them and I've had mine 7 years now. Payed 560 in 2007 56 quart

Any other Koolatron owners out there? Wondering if there is anyone that's had the same issues with melting plugs and fans going out. One year in and mine is still going strong.
Regarding ice... I hate using ice. Usually the cooler is on the floor, which is poorly insulated from the heat of the drive train and the road. Doesn't take long for that ice to become a smelly, biological experiment. If you get new ice every day during the hot season you end up spending what? $3 a day or more? Doesn't take long to justify getting a cooler, pays for itself within a month or so and it stays clean. Sometimes I need to take a paper towel and wipe down the condensation on the bottom of my cooler, but that's about it. -
I cut off the plug and hooked the cooler up to the binding posts for the CB. That circuit is rated for 20A in my Volvo, and handles both the cooler and my (legal, unmodified) CB just fine.Moosetek13, 25(2)+2 and 48Packard Thank this.
