Sounds like me. License w/ all endorsements for a year as well but I own my truck and was hung up on wether or not I should drive for a company or drive for me. And then WHERE? TX, ND, CO and so on... I'm in S. FL. Palm Beach born and breed. Came to a point where I was just going to regret not at least giving it a shot bc WHAT IF I can go up there and come back in 5 years at 30 yrs old with a 100-150 grand in cash stashed... So u see, just gotta do it man. PM me or get back to me if you want to discuss further about going up in a month or so. Had a friend that went to ND last year for about 5 months and was trying to get him to go w/ me bc it would be easier and cheaper to go and find something w/ 2 ppl rather than by myself. I was thinking I'm going to rent a van to get me around out there and use all the cargo space in back for sleeping. Put a twin mattress on floor and go w/ it. I'm in the middle of comparing costs and time if I was to fly out to ND or TX and then rent a van and fly back or just rent it down here and drive up there and back. Options that would be much cheaper and easier w/ someone to split all the costs with. Think about it and get back to me bc I'm going regardless bc the longer I wait the harder it will be to uproot my wife and child.

You can make money in the oil field, but you will have to be careful. If you are paying housing expenses back in FL, you might just want to look into a different company that goes out of FL.
Or find something like a Frac crew that has housing. Some trucking companies do provide housing, but they can be harder to find ( at least where we are they are)
Paying rent in two places can be a major PITA and deplete your money faster than you think. If however your fiancee is paying all or most of her bills in FL then that would be a different story. It's one of the reason's that I am here in TX with my husband rather than in FL where all my family is.
It's something to think about. -
You are lucky that you only have a year of your life invested in trucking. It's not too late to get into a skilled trade at home and see your family. If your fiance refuses to move where you go, that is a sign she is not committed to you. People not being together leads to divorce really fast. Do you want short term financial gain or to have long-term family and friends? It's your choice, and will affect the rest of your life.

Def ND....More money there...All fields pay more...2 dollars an hour avg
If your gonna leave at all, and be away from your world, then makes da most moneys, right? -

I took almost a year off and am just now headed back to ND hauling crude again. (Leave tomorrow. Fantastic offer from a big company.) This time, I am moving over for a 5 year stint. I will save 1200 a month doing this, this means up to 50k in the bank a year, while renting. We don't have other bills. And buying a house is much cheaper than renting. Buy the darned house and rent it out when I am done working like a dog and move back to where we love. 250k cash buys a nice house here, in the mean time I will own a house in the Bakken too. Win win. Live poor and plan, stick to it and it is well worth it.
TruckerLife1 and Aireal Thank this. -
I spent 4 yr's in the military, as a military wife, I might as well have been single ( mostly why we divorced). I spent 10 yr's after that single, just dating, and the last 10 yr's with my husband, almost 2 yr's of that in a semi OTR. I've done the double bill's, his on the road, mine at home b4 I went with him...I'd rather be in the middle of no-where land with him.
It's a matter of choice I guess.MTNClimber Thanks this. -
Yes, I was lucky to have a good home time schedule. And that took the sting away. It is another reason why I am taking my family with me this time around.
Aireal Thanks this.
