They do provide housing, but it will cost you depending on the type and location ($600-1200/mo, IIRC). I will be in a 38' diesel pusher RV, and I don't want or need man camp housing. They do also provide RV spots in some of their yards (right on site), but the yard in Ross has a waiting list for the RV spots. I already went on the waiting list, so hopefully a spot will free up before too long for me to move in.

The pay is quite simple. You will be offered an hourly rate. This will be your pay rate in training, too. Once you complete your training, you have the option of working nights for a $3/hr differential.

Schedule? Depends on what you work out with your supervisor. Apparently people work 5-1, 5-2, alternating 5-2/5-3, and just about any legal combination that keeps them under the DOT max of 70 before a 24h reset. I will try to work straight up 5-1s for 6 weeks, then take 10-14 off to go see the spousal unit. Once again, its all in what is worked out with the supervisor.

Bill and Randy are both real solid guys. They are our water pushers in Ross, as long as you get your time off request in you will be solid. Randy was actually my trainer when I was still driving and Bill has been with the company for 6 years I think and is another exmilitary guy. He was in the Air Force but I try not to hold that against him. I'd recommend putting in your request the first day you are here just to give them enough notice to accommodate you. Are you planning on working days or nights? I responded back to your PM entirely too slowly, been a pretty crazy week in terms of work so haven't had much free time to hope on here and respond. 5/1 is the most common, I don't know anyone in water that works a 5/3 but a lot of guys do 5/1 one week and 5/2 the next.

I saw your response here after your PM, so you answered a couple questions I just asked.

    OOPS.

I want to work nights, but I would understand if I had to run days while in training and while I find my way around the area.

Well, that wasn't a problem before but we have had two drivers recently start out on nights and ended up rolling the truck so more than likely we will start you on days. Plus, we are really loaded on nights right now. I've been at this yard for 2 years and this is the first time we have ever had more night guys than day guys.

bknight I had a couple questions about MBI in Cogan Station, PA. Are you familiar at all with the operations out there? I live in Pittsburgh, PA so I am interested in sand truck driving that is posted on MBI's website.

Hey Drt D. I arrived in Medora last Wed for phys(Dickinson) and to pee for everyone that wanted some. I will say that Medora is probably about as beautiful as ND gets. I'll be stationed out of Watford and just started orientation today. They should be putting you up at the Bunkhouse and you may be able to park your trailer on the property - no clue about residing in it during orientation though. I initially hired on with a 3 truck company for a variety of reasons and that turned out to be the wrong choice for me - sat for a week waiting for work and safety was not enough of a concern for this newb. . .etc.

I heard mention that time off req's are to be made by the 20th of the preceding month. . .if approved, you're set.

. . .I'm hopeful that I've chosen the right team this time!

I am not in a trailer, I will be in a 38' Class A diesel pusher (29,000 GVWR) with a 4x4 on a tow bar behind it. I already spoke to HR; I won't be required to stay in the bunkhouse during orientation (and will not have the $300 lodging deducted from my first check, either). I will be calling the two parks in Medora tomorrow to check rates and availability for the time I should be in orientation and hopefully make a reservation. Worst case scenario, I can stay in the National Park, but the RV spots are primitive with no hookups (the $10/night rate is awesome, though).

I prefer living out of the RV... I have propane and charcoal grills, a smoker, and all the food I want in the fridge, freezer and cabinets. I already started loading the RV here in the SW in preparation of the move, so I shouldn't need to do much shopping for about a month after I leave home.

Just about everything is set down here for me to pull out of town on June 6th. I will be taking my time getting there, spending a day in Colorado Springs with some friends, hitting Mount Rushmore, etc, and plan on pulling in to Medora on the 11th. My physical is scheduled for the 12th. I will then spend the next 3 days camping, enjoying the scenery and National Park, and relaxing before my next chapter in life begins.

DRTDEVL-I prefer living out of an RV. My home is in New Mexico, but I have been living in a 25' travel trailer for the last 3 years here in Montana where I work. I like having my own space. I bought an Arctic Fox which is well insulated and was very thorough with the winterizing-no problems.

Good luck to you, have a safe trip up, and thank you for your service.

I have zero clue about any of the operations out in PA honestly, my expertise is pretty much limited to the Watford/Ross yards and surrounding areas for water.
