Well here it is, finally...just to update on my travels

This is the LAST ice crossing for 2008! Am I ever GLAD! The last one is always the scariest...

Well it has arrived...the last ice crossing for 2008! Thank you Lord! There was SOOOO much water & slush on the ice!
It was 50F the whole trip, so I would say it is safe to assume that spring had FINALLY arrived! YAHOO! Back to the BUG season soon, matter of fact I saw my very first mosquito this morning!

Here's some pictures I took... It was pretty nerve wracking to say the least!

I forgot my life jacket...hope the puddles aren't too deep...

    Onto the Ice:

    Big puddles!

    New meaning for SLUSH!!

    Nother big puddle:

    Don't look DOWN!

I have no words that will describe the feeling of this crossing...white knuckle all the way! Wonder what's under that water??? Hopefully NOT a big whole! The river is over 100 ft deep here...we tease the newbies this time of year...tell 'em to do up seatbelts tight....easier to find the bodies!

Truthfully, they wouldn't allow us out there if it wasn't safe to cross, there was a sonar truck out on the road when I went over it...so I KNEW it was ok! It's just NOT my favorite time of year!

Thanks Cybergal...it's only like this in the spring...but it is pretty nerve wracking. I don't LIKE it...I just do what has to be done...

    Baack:

There are no American Drivers where I run...this is strictly a Canada to Canada run. No wait, I DID see one American driver up there this winter, matter of fact I "escorted" him across the river, talked him across really, he was pretty scared :biggrin_25519:. He had no idea what to expect, I at least know what's up. Poor guy was sadly unprepared, it was 50 below zero with 70 below windchills, needless to say I don't think he'll come back!

That is truly awesome! Thank you so much for posting those pics.

I watched the ice road documentary (docudrama) on History Channel last year. Very interesting stuff. I know I might never make it up there, but I think it would be a real career highlight for a southerner like me to drive those roads for even one trip, let alone a whole season. You really have my greatest respect for doing that kind of work under those conditions. Outstanding!

    Wildkat,
That is amazing! A whole different world, for sure.
Ratchet loves the Ice Road Trucker shows. Never misses one when he is here. He was musing on trying for an ice road job but hates winter so much that he decided against it. (good.)
We're used to -30 to -40 and killer wind chills but it is darned hard on equipment and drivers, both.
You have my kudos, dude, drive safe!

Absolutely unbelievable. Wow, it takes a pretty gutsy person to do that job. You are on my top list of Gallant people!!!

BTW, I'm showing these to my boys, they watched the show and couldn't believe that people actually did this for a living. :yes2557: Thanks so much for sharing. Enjoy your summer. I'm sure that you won't be missing the ice anytime soon. :biggrin_25523:
