I can't handle wearing the parrot all night, went with a cobra 29 Bluetooth model. Sound quality is excellent through an aux. speaker I mounted on top. Nice to just grab the mic and have a phone conversation!

So I think I have it nailed down:
Cobra 29 LTD bluetooth (already has a noise cancel mic with it)
Cobra HG S500 external speaker
Wilson W5000T-10B antenna w/RG-58 coax
EDIT: Gonna go with Wilson T2000 (Black) antenna instead
But I am looking at the predator 10K antenna as well, but the price is a little high for a beginnerLast edited: May 30, 2014

Nothing wrong with that setup.
In my opinion, the Wilson 5000 is probably overkill for that setup. I think a Wilson 2000 will do just as well and save you a few bucks.
But, I'm no expert.
I almost bought the 5000 thinking that more expensive is probably better.
I had guys talk me out of spending the extra money for a 5000 since I wasn't running a kicker or anything.
I decided to spend that difference on better quality coax (RG-8X instead of RG-58 since RG-8X has significantly less signal loss per foot than RG-58) .Last edited: May 29, 2014
Nukem Thanks this. -
Wasn't looking at a kicker as well... Hmmm, now you have me thinking...
-
Even with a kicker, the 2000 will be fine.
The size of kicker that would REQUIRE the 5000 is cost prohibitive to most of us.
-
BTW, I wouldn't worry about a kicker at this point.
Put your money into GOOD BASIC stuff like the Wilson antenna, RG-8X coax and a good basic radio FIRST.
Then see how you use the radio out on the road.
Maybe you'll decide you need a kicker, or maybe you won't; depending on how you find that you actually use your radio. -
Yea... I am going to do that before I go crazy, but I'm still going with the Cobra 29 BT and the external speaker, so I don't have to worry about wearing anything while I drive. I'm also going to see what the other company drivers have and what my trainer uses as well. I'm all for other (cheaper) options, but I also want the best for the buck so-to-speak. Thanks!

Just a head's up...Right now (for the next 48 hrs.-ends midnight 5/31) Loves has the Wilson T2000 on sale. It's normally $69.99, on sale for $49.99, BUT there is also a $10 mail in rebate as well! So you're getting a $70 stick for $40....(Not to mention if you have any driver points built up....I got mine for basically free....) Just remember to ask for 2 receipts, because you have to send an original receipt in, as well as the barcode from the pkg. for the rebate....
Nukem Thanks this. -
Sure....In fact last I checked in the Petro truckstop off 285 Atlanta loop the CB shop had a couple of general lees for around $220.00.....hell I got my Stryker 655 HP 10 meter for $320.00 in the got a a static chrome mic $38.00,Texas ranger chrome speaker for $42.00 ,monkey made whip for $98.00....just don't have him tweak and peak it....for that I'd go to the CB shop at the Petro in Knoxville tn
