Well a few days ago every truckers nightmare became my life. I was involved in a 2 fatality accident. There was a eye witness that told the State police what happened as did I. It was ruled the fault of the driver of the 4 wheeler. the DOT went over my truck the day after it happend and have released it for pick up. My company tells me my job is safe when I'm able to come back to work. I have to buy another truck when insurance comes through. Everyone around here keeps telling me not to wary so much that if wasn't my fault, but I can't seem to stop this depression that has sit in on me and the fear of driving again. I am also wandering how this will follow me and affect my carrier as a driver if I decide to go back to it. Anyone else went through this? Dose this sound like a normal reaction? I fell like I may lose my mind. any advice and prays for the families of the the people who lost there life is greatly appreciated.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I can't give you any experienced advice, but I can remind you that YOU are the captain of your ship. If you aren't sure about returning, take time. No one will fault you for that. (Except the bill collectors, yeah, they are heartless!)

((Hugs)) to you and prayers to you and the families who lost loved ones.

(Was this the wreck on 35.where they ran into a broken down big truck?)

The depression is a normal after going thru a traumatic event...
My advice is to check with your insurance company and see if they cover counseling...
Mine did and it helped alot......
It will get easier with time, but it's been almost 5 years for me and I still sometimes have issues with driving at night.
    Good luck to you.

My father, was involved in a similar situation, with one fatality. He took a year off and it just ate at him, even though he was not at fault. He medicated himself with alcohol and it was a rough year. He finally was able to go back to work but, it was tough going for a while. I think counseling would have done him some good and got him back in the seat quicker.

I am so sorry you are dealing this. My best friends husbands was involved in an accident like this and he was also not found at fault. He hasn't had no issue with changing jobs. I am not sure how long it took him to deal with it, since he is just not the talkative type about things like this.

Just take it easy. You WILL be ok. While you are at home, if you think you could use some help, don't hesitate to go to a professional. There is zero shame in doing that, and you may be surprised how much just a couple of session with a therapist may benefit you.

    Good luck to you.

You were involved, you weren't the cause. You can't hold guilt to something that was not your fault. It was beyond your control. Take some time to gather your thoughts and even get some counseling. Just like a cowboy who falls off a horse you have to dust yourself off and get back on it.

You have to overcome the fear which in reality the odds are a billion to one it would ever happen to you again.

It's one of them things you don't really know until it happens to you. If there is no litigation involved then give it a little time, let the emotions settle some and send the family a letter or card of condolence. You might be surprised at the reply giving you more peace of mind.

I hope all involved find closure sooner than later.

Well the crash report is final. It states plainly that I wasn't at fault. I also will start going to mental health in the morning. I'm having to deal with about 4 different claims. 1 for accident occupation, 1 for the truck, 1 for the freight liability and also the liability claim with the drive of the pickup. the father of the driver is wanting to talk to me and I have know Ideal what to do about that. I want to talk to him if I can help him have some little comfort . but the trucking company don't think I should. I'm still worried about driving again, but it looks like its going to be a mouth or two before my claims are going to pay and I can buy a truck. any way I thank everyone for their input and advice and will update this tread as new things arise in hopes it may help someone in this situation in the future.

I was involved in a fatality too, you have to keep in your mind that it wasn't your fault, things happened that are out of your control. I look at it that if I hadn't of hit the car that crossed the centerline and it would of hit the cars behind me, many people would of died. I would of gotten in a truck the next day if I hadn't been hurt.

Keep your head up driver, you didn't do anything wrong.

I wouldn't talk to the victims family without the consultation of a lawyer first.

I lost my daughter in a car crash involving a semi. My daughter went to pass a car, the car she was passing sped up. Rather than forgetting it and moving back over she sped up to try and get around the car. She ran out of the passing zone area and struck a semi coming the other direction. Her fault she was 20.

I wanted to talk to the driver to let him know he was in my thoughts and prayers. I knew it was not his fault and I wanted to make sure he was ok and that I knew their was nothing he could do.

It may be that they want to check on you and how you are doing. The advice to check with an attorney is sound though in todays world.
