Checking for basic education is part of most companies back ground checks. As was stated earlier.... At least get your GED online. Then you won't have to lie about it.

Chinatown I like you.You try to give good advice and give a list of companies to ppl looking for work. But I have to ask,if you owned a company what would be a red flag to who you won't hire?
Chinatown Thanks this. -
That's what I figured, they check that during the background check.

How is Swift or any other mega carrier going to actually verify whether someone has graduated high school or not? I'm not trying to be condescending or confrontational, I'm asking an honest question. Are they going to call the prospective hire's school and ask for his records? Do they need proof of his/her diploma? I can't imagine they have time to physically check every applicants background completely with the amount of hires they bring in every week. Also, I can't see how felons are getting hired but someone with no secondary or post secondary education cannot. I don't see it.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
...and I'm not saying every company does it, but if it were me, I wouldn't want to take the chance. It's also assuming a person is getting hired on by a "mega" or other bigger company. An O/O can do what they want... but I do know for a fact that an education check is done. I just don't know if the trucking industry does them. -
I had to provide a copy of my HS diploma to the CDL school that I graduated from before the CDL school accepted me. Best to get your GED. You will be happy you got, years down the road. Education is one of the things nobody can take from you.
Best of luck to you.joseph1135 and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
So......you're asking someone else to invest the time and money in you, but you won't even invest the time to commit to earning a HS diploma.
Nice.joseph1135, Tonythetruckerdude, Marlin46 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I know many people in hard financial situations...But.....
I don't recommend company sponsored CDL training. If you get government financing, school financing, family financing etc. and get your CDL you can work for any company that will hire you. If company A treats you lhoribly and you cant make any money, you have the option to leave and go to company B If however company A pays for you r CDL training, you must pay them for that training if you want to leave. Company A knows you cant offord to leave, so they give you their worst loads. Your not making any money, but can;t leave since they paid your schooling. Your basically an indentured servant. Now, some have made this work, but its not the easiest way or recommended way.
Now I only read page 1 so I apologize if this has been covered. If I were you I would look into getting you GED. This will make life easier. Weather youc an or not, Call up companies and explain your situation. Some may make an ecpetion if they like you and think your a hard worker. I think you would have a harder time convincing a company to pay for your cdl school without a GED though. They look at it as....well if he couldn't finish highschool, how do we know he will finish cdl school" I dont mean to sound rude, but that's the reality of your situation.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -

I do not comprehend condoning lying on a job application. Then where does it stop? It was OK to lie on my job app. I got away with it. Now I'll lie about something else. So it is OK to lie if nobody checks????
Dishonesty is Dishonesty.
I also have a question to the original poster. You quit High School, what were you planning on doing with your life?Tonythetruckerdude and joseph1135 Thank this.
