I'll give the OP props for asking. He knows he has a problem. We don't know why he doesn't have a diploma. Like it or not, that HS diploma opens doors, though they probably don't lead to a corner office. Those without a HS diploma can generally expect to earn far less over their working lives than those who have one. There are also the non-monetary benefits of an education.

This is the most irresponsible advice I've ever seen on TTR: "Lie on your job application." It's also bad advice for job seekers in general. A falsified app gives an otherwise unqualified candidate an apparent "in" that he hasn't earned; it can make it appear that he has credentials and experience he doesn't possess. You wouldn't want your doctor to lie about his medical school diploma and his medical background. You wouldn't want your attorney to claim that he'd passed a state bar when that wasn't true or that he graduated from a prestigious law school he never set eyes on. Just claim on a job app that you've got a college degree that you don't have and see what happens. Or tell them that you graduated from a particular trucking school and have a CDL with all endorsements when you didn't and don't. Why waste a potential employer's time--and yours? The truth will come out.

Millis's website indicates that an HS diploma or equivalent is required. I just looked, and it's the same for Swift. I didn't check any others.

When carriers ask if you graduated high school, you can bet that they'll check; they won't just take your word for it. In 1991 I had to provide a certified copy of my HS transcripts to my carrier before my app would even be processed.

When they say "or equivalent" it usually means they are lax on the requirement.

If you can properly fill out the application, you likely meet their educational requirement. This has been my experience as a person without a diploma who has landed jobs requiring a diploma. And I didn't lie either. There are also trucking companies that advertise that they require experience, yet hire inexperienced drivers... go figure.

These employers aren't dumb. They know a HS diploma is no guarantee the holder can even read.

Try CR England. I think their requirements are something along the line of Breathing, one good eye, 1 hand, teeth optional

Prime will, how do I know? Cause I am a high school drop out with out a GED and they hired me. Those of us who dropped out have done so for many reason so I won't judge you for not finishing school.

He can't get away with lying about endorsements or CDL school. The HS diploma is irrelevant; he wants to drive trucks, not be a nuclear physicist. A person doesn't have to be well educated or very smart to drive trucks; it's really a simple job. It does attract all educational levels because of the bad economy and the good pay it offers. I keep it in perspective; I'm a trucker but I'm not special.

You told him to lie on his application. I suspect he knows not to. The HS diploma/equivalent--or any other requirement--isn't irrelevant if a carrier says you must have one and won't consider an applicant without one and without proof. The carrier decides what's relevant. cardinals1970 gave the best answer to the OP's question.

HS diplomas are irrelevant: I have two friends (twin brothers) who skipped last two years of HS to go to college, never got a ged or diploma, and they ARE nuclear physicists (well, close enough: computer engineers).
