Mark, we get it. You're blinded by your paycheck.
I never said I wanted a perfect map system. I said I want something that's as accurate as a piece of paper, which is by its nature incapable of being updated unless you replace it with another piece of paper.
World of difference there, partner.
Best GPS unit?

I have tried to explain how the maps work in an GPS as much as possible without giving trade secrets out. It is not a cut and dry deal like you see a road in front of you.
The system does not allow you to simply go into the DB make a correction and then send it out. Maps are build into regions. DCA's if you will. The entire DCA then has to be compiled to make a simple change. This takes many hours to compile. Maps are compiled quarterly by HERE and some companies provide quarterly updates. RM does not. RM does take several months to test any new maps that are released. This is to ensure that no glaring flaws are showing. Maps are not free. Any company wishing to have the maps has to buy them from a map supplier. You can pay for certain things and get less detail which brings the licensing cost down. Add more detail and the licensing costs go up. This is one of the main reasons car GPS are cheap. They only buy the data needed for a car.
When you buy a Truck GPS the license fee is included in the cost.
As stated, the MCRA is one DB that belongs to RM. The TND and all other truck GPS's draw their data from a map supplier.
RM does maintain a DB that is not made public of restrictions. This is added to the raw data at compile time.
Until the system is corrected for any missing corrections at ALL levels back to the map supplier, data will be incorrect.
The map system was not updated in years past as it should have been because the need was not there before.
Let's be proactive on your side and give me examples of where you suspect the maps are incorrect either for roads or restrictions.
You can go on constantly about the maps, but in reality, nothing will be accomplished until you the driver bring those issues forward. The manpower is not there at state level to go out and verify all roads and any restrictions placed upon them, then go back and correct state DOT records. This does not mean you are now Beta Testing to provide data, it simply means 3 million pairs of eyes see more than a few handful.
The MCRA and the HERE data will always be different, just like TeleAtlas will always be different than HERE.mattbnr Thanks this. -
