    "As for updates i plug my unit in to my laptop and do a map update once a week and it is free. So far not a single shutdown, lag, or problem with this Android operating system on this tablet."

    Who is the map core for your unit? I don't know of any map supplier that provides map updates weekly. Quarterly or Yearly is the standard.

    Here (NavTeq) updates Quarterly/Yearly.

    Map compiles are too labor intensive to do weekly.

    mattbnr Thanks this.

    Software maybe - as in versions. Not maps. How long did the update take?

    I will give my review tomorrow on the garmin 560 . I have to go into long island , and when I put in the address it took about 5 minutes for it to calculate , and from what I can see on the map. The route on the gps looks right . Witch is kinda funny... lol

    Well the UPDATES go state by state some taking longer then the next. This last map update was a longer then the others. Just because RM does it quarterly does not mean others have to follow. Do I get a hint of envy and jealousy? Say it ain't so.

    No he's saying the company HERE doesn't release new map date but quarterly/yearly. Maybe your tablet might only release partial updates every week or something but your still only getting the full picture every year same as rand.

    Maps are not compiled by state or Provinces. They are compiled by regions which can span across parts of states/Provinces into other states/Provinces. They have to be released as a whole since the compile is all tied together.

    DCA = Database Coverage Area.

    Map data consist of topologically consistent vector or raster data that can be organized in various ways, such as in a relational database. These data are not only essential for calculating routes, avoiding traffic, and finding a nearby destination or POI, but are also useful for displaying or printing maps or for other types of geographic analysis. In simplest terms, spatial data consists of points, lines, and/or polygons. Each of these data elements can be associated with one or more attributes that define a quality or characteristic of the element. The Britannica online dictionary defines an attribute as "A quality or characteristic inherent in or ascribed to someone or something." In a map context, an attribute can be anything that can be ascribed directly or indirectly to a location at a point, about a line, or about a polygon. These attributes include both static (relatively stable) dimensions, such as roads, signs, stores, landmarks, and rivers, as well as dynamic (changing frequently) dimensions, such as traffic and weather conditions.

    Why is it that a gps will show like a 10 ft section of road that is not authorized for trucks ?
    that is weird. To day mine went crazy going up 95N through new york , and then when I hit 295 and 495 split it went nuts again. Lol

    I kept going because I had allready planned my trip out and I knew it was ok to be on.
    but that just blew my mind...
