They do things a little differ now. I had to go to the DC for my in-person interview, passed that then they did my road test/pre-trip same day. Passed that. Went home and two weeks later got called for 'second' interview, went to the DC for that, which was the job offer. Accepted, and they sent me for physical and drug test, then waited another week or so for the second (more in depth) background check to come back, they called and gave me orientation date. Hopefully someone who has gone through the 'new' process can give you a better answer. I would imagine you'll get offered the job and get sent for your drug test and physical after your road test, good luck either way.

Oh, one more thing, everyone thinks they're still 'competing' for an opening. Once you pass your interview, it's your job to lose at that point. They don't pick a name out of a hat, you're already in if you pass everything after that point.

I have a road test, pre trip, etc set up for June. I am getting married September 6th. If I would make it and accept the job I would assume I would be starting before I get married. I have the honeymoon for the next week after I get married already paid for and booked. I will need like 11 days off. Do you think walmart would work with me or what do you think they will tell me. Thanks

It would not stop them from hiring you... When Walmart hires they hire the perfect fit for the Team. When Walmart hires they expect you to retire with them.. Good luck

hey gary i had a question for you. if you have a suggestion about something to be changed who do you goto? as a senior driver ill run it by you see what you think. its really just wishful thinking on my part. but i think it could help get more qualified drivers to come aboard. by changing the transfer for new guys that are from out of state from 1 year to 6 months. just the initial transfer back closer to home. then be 1 year before you could transfer again, its just a thought but it sure would be nice lol

Not gonna happen. Great idea. They used to have a 'hardship' transfer, but too many took advantage of this loophole for just that reason, and they did away with this provision. Walmart hires at a great expense, and they want to get at least one year out of their investment without putting the hiring DC in the position to look for a replacement prematurely.

You will find the culture at Walmart amazing. Most companies I know would tell you tough luck. Walmart will honor any previous plans. I had planned to have a wedding party at my house for good friends of ours, and was told 'just let us know when you need to be home.' I have had to come in a day late, leave a day early, and all they said was 'your family comes first' and when I came back it was 'is everything ok? Is there anything we can do?' This is NOT a trucking company. This is Walmart Private Fleet. HUGE difference.

And while I'm on a soap box, I have something to say to all the 'old timers' who keep griping about how much this job has changed. Get over it! It's STILL the best job for a CDL holder and has changed proportionately with the rest of the industry. Walmart got worse? So did Swift. So did JB Hunt. And Conway and UPS and so on and so on. If Walmart didn't change to adapt to the ever changing economic climate, well, remember Ames? Hills? What's left of K-Mart? Priority trucking? CF? They didn't budget properly. They had too much debt. They had unsustainable operating costs. They didn't change. They're dead (K-Mart is terminally ill). You have a job, a stable job with a company who knows how to do it right, the best job in the industry, BECAUSE Walmart changed and adapted to keep in tune with the economy, the consumer, and the costs of doing business. So if Walmart doesn't feed you as many hot dogs as you used to get, and they make you wipe your own butt now, I'd challenge you to find a better job, but stop trying to discourage people from coming onboard. The old days are gone. They're not coming back. Walmart can't be that bad...you're still here...

Yeah, I'm staying. Got it too good here to leave. Only benefit to transferring would be cutting 2 hours off my travel time to work. Woodland is 2.5 hours as opposed to Toby being 4.5 hours, but Woodland is very seniority heavy and I'd have less than no chance of getting on a 6/3 program there, whereas I got on one here after 2 months and already have at least 15 drivers under me and more coming on. So the 4.5 hour drive doesn't look bad (didn't bother me anyway so really no reason to leave). I know the area now, most of the stores, vendors, roads etc, and already had the advantage of already have been to most of them when I was working out of Johnstown with JB Hunt my first year driving. Even mastered a store called Uniondale, NY, I can get by the generator in back without even touching the curb...with a condo! I'm happy here. Both with Walmart and at Tobyhanna. Good luck getting to Florida, hope you don't have to wait too long...but you might, a lot of guys want to be there...NO SNOW. LOL.

How you liking it so far anyway?
