Heck yeah I hate that stuff. My new doctor says he doesn't like it either. When I went to the VA she gave me 5mg. Every time I took it I would drop down to 60-70. I'd complain to the NP and next thing I know I get a prescription in the mail for 10mg. I was thinking that nurse practitioner was nuts. I would break a 5mg in half and I could count on it knocking me down 100 points. I would wait until my sugar rose to 250 and then I would take one along with a Metformin. I know you are suppose to take them before you eat but that woman had me scared. Going hypo isn't fun.
The Victoza is suppose to keep you more stable. Something about it's a hormone that excites the beta cells in the pancreas where it produces more insulin when it's needed. Something like that. This is all new to me too. I had to wait for approval and the mail order. Hopefully I'll have it Tuesday or Wednesday.
Any Diabetics Using Victoza?

A little update on this Victoza. Before I started this I was all over the place with my numbers usually averaging from 180-220. I have had readings as high as 450.
Since I've started the full dose my readings have been no higher than 170 with most my readings in the 100 to 120 range. I'm suppose to take my Metformin regularly with it but I'm scared to because many meals I eat with no or low carbs and no sugar. When I do eat something that I feel will raise my sugar then I will take a Metformin. Only once I've thought I was going hypo and I ate a piece of candy and felt better.
The stuff has really suppressed my appetite. Some foods taste like crap and others I'm eating very small portions and I don't feel like eating anymore. I might eat a bowl of soup and a small dinner and I'm happy. All them sweet cravings have gone away. I haven't weighed myself but I would guess I've lost 10 lbs since I've started it.
Side effects: The first few days my back hurt worse and I felt a little weird but that subsided. I had a migraine headache for about a week and that too has gone away. It does play a number on your digestive tract for about 7-10 days. That has even gone away. I guess it's the body adjusting to it.
I just checked my sugar. 100!!!!
This is good stuff. Some of you that have problems managing your diabetes and want to lose weight I highly recommend it.Last edited: Feb 26, 2014

60 units Lantus, Metformin 500 mg 3 x per day didn't work.
Now the doctor added DPP4 pills 2 x per day with the above
I guess I am gonna just eat grass and drink water
Talked to the doc about Victoza but he thinks this DPP4 will help me get back on track and wants me to try this combo for awhile.CondoCruiser and Chinatown Thank this. -
I've been seeing the commercials for this stuff... what has me concerned is the method of eliminating the excess sugar from your body.... through your urine. It may not be commonly known... but if you can keep your glucose below 180mg/dl for 72 hours straight before a DOT physical ... there will be no sugar in your urine. Here in lies my concern... this med will raise a red flag during a DOT physical. Requiring letters and such from your Primary Doc....

Dennisroc - are you still taking the cinnamon capsules. I ran out and didn't get more by being negligent and my sugar jumped to 300. Didn't realize how good they are until I stopped for awhile.

I have been taking Lantus insulin shots, 60 units , 500 mg Metformin 2x per day and DPP4 , 2x per day.
I lost 15 lbs in the last 2 months going through this back surgery and am trying to decrease my insulin use back to zero. I take insulin by choice and can get off insulin to drive a truck but it just worked well for me.
Also I just take 1/2 of my blood pressure pill per day since my weight loss, I was getting dizzy taking the whole pill.
All is good for now but thinking about taking the cinnamon caps again as I am slowing down my insulin use.
Headborg : Where did you get that info about keeping your sugar below 180 for 72 hours to pass your medical ???
I think I could do that, no problem !Chinatown Thanks this. -
dennisroc: It's technical term is : renal threshold of glucose 180mg/dl but that's just the average .. it varies with the individual 160-180
