hello everybody! i'm half way through CDL school and am looking into shaffer / crete. i've already chatted with a shaffer driver, who was kind enough to talk to me about the company. i'm still trying to decide if it's worth the extra cent(s) per mile to join shaffer instead of crete. any thoughts? i'm planning on joining the national fleet after training is done. i'd like to go national otr for at least my first year.

No. Mostly solo with some teams.

Miles are alternating between 2500-3000 per week, 1 1/2 years here has me at .46 cpm and my only complaint is my ASSet Manager is an idiot. And I can avoid dealing with him by running mostly nights. If you hire on here be ready to mostly run the Midwest and the southeast but getting home is usually easy because a lot of our drivers hate going to CA (more freight for me).

Also, if you live in SD (guessing from the name) you'd be assigned to the PHX terminal so you'd be able to take the truck home on home time rather than having to keep a car at the terminal. I know that was on the plus side of things when I was picking between companies.

What is Shaffer's detention pay policy? Been searching for info but can't find anything recent. Do they let you take the truck home? Thinking about going with Melton or Shaffer...it's a touch choice, I'd rather pull reefer but if I can make more money pulling a flat I will.

Detention is supposed to be $15 an hour from what I was told but drivers told me it ranges, however you only get paid if you arrive on time/early.. send in qualcomm message saying they're running late, fill out a detention form and the customer pays for detention.
Most shippers are drop and hook here. Detention doesn't happen often but it does happen.
You can take your truck home.
If you have min 4months experience you'll start around 43CPM.

If you can get that or more at Melton, go knock yourself out with flatbed.
They do have nice Kenworths over there, here you'll likely have a cheap freightshaker.
