Like the real stinky, musty smell? My old truck used to do that with a Cummins ISX.
An oil change and a new crank case filter fixed it.
This was running Rotella. -
It's a fresh oil change.

I don't use Rotella. Mobil Delvac or Delo please.
-
If its Rotella, the oil smells funny for about the first 500-1000 miles after an oil change. It is normal, something about the additives being released. I have only ever used shell, so I don't know about other brands and if they smell after a fresh oil change

The company I am leased to gives me access to everything I need to service my truck but I think they buy whatever oil is on sale at the time the bulk tank is in need of refilling.

Rotella is famous for this new oil smell after a fresh oil change for the first few hundred miles. In the diesel pickup forums they call it Smelltella or something like that. I think it smells great just like diesel fumes do, Mmmmmmm.
EZ Money Thanks this. -
