I am now in the 2nd week of orientation here in North Little Rock, AR. We started the 1st week with 31. Thant would be 17 students & the balance were experienced drivers. We now have 12 students & 5 experienced drivers left. They have a lifestyle class on Sunday(the 1st day) that will drop a few students, For those who have never been away fm your family for any extended time, then this can be an awakening. They give you the worse possible scenerio. Remember, they do not guarntee weekends home. They will emphasize this over & over. The next day (Monday) is the physical & the abilities testing....It will drop quite a few guys. This orientation process Maverick provides is very intense. Be prepared for 12 to 13 hour days the 1st week. You also will have homework that may take 2 hrs or so. There are very strict rules in place regarding returning homework on time. You cannot wear a hat in class. The second time they ask you to take it off you can be terminated fm the program. The instructors are mostly former drivers & they really know their "stuff" & know how to relay to the student. You will be tired every day you here, at least the 1st week. I am a student & have survived so far. I think the worse part for me is the being away fm home. After 38 yrs with the same woman & not being away more than a few days, I find it difficult sometimes. It is important that your wife is supportive here or you will not make it. I should have a trainer by next Sunday or Monday , Out of the 9 students that made it through the last class, only 2 will have a trainer that will get them home on weekends. Something for you to think about! Good luck to all who are coming here.

OK, Hows this sound to those on here who cry about working long hours and being away from home.
First off im leaving tomorrow to Laurinburg,NC. Mavericks Specialized Division = Horray.......................................................:biggrin_255:
Ive been self employeed and sm. business owner for 13 yrs. You want to talk about long hours, OK = try this up at 5am. grab coffee, then do paper work , get everthing in order for that day, and then off to work and deal with crying employees who show up late, or hung over, and complain about everything, including the weather. I say go home to your mommy and hold onto her skirt. Then deal w/customers/suppliers/ bad deliver drvs. And also physically work all day , and then at 5 O'clock, No not quit time, but back home at the desk, going thru paper work/phone-calls/etc., and maybe be done for the day around 8 or 9 O'clock pm. Thats 15 to 16 hr days, HUMM..
IM use to working 6 or 7 days a week . But I also had plenty of extra pocket money to spend anytime. Play Money.
And thanks to the Bad Econommy no one is spending money on there homes. I understand. SO after almost 4 months of no-work it's time to move on. Moss doesnt grow on the bottom of my boots.
If you want it easy, go home, and go find a 9to5 mon.=fri. job. Walmart is always hiring. And continue to cry about being broke.
Im Looking foward , and I expect the long hours, thats just part of trucking = OTR/Longhaul. <<DUH...
my son-inlaw works in there flatbed division, he likes it alot. But like he has said to me, you got to be realistic = you are out there driving, from point A to B. and yes [ duh ] they are going to give you delivery times. The problem he see's with alot of drivers including Maverick drvs. is they stop alot and sit in the truck stops. So they are late alot for there delivery times . They get barked at by fleet managers<<DUH.... He drives and gets alot of miles, he also just got a top milage award for the 1st quater of this yr. He is a true working man, and He makes the money $$$$$$ <<< isnt this what it's all about. Making Money = to take care of the Family at Home.
Right now Maverick is one of the highest paying companys for the specialized division, get a grip guys. If you werent born with a silver spoon in your mouth, then we have to work.... Ive seen plenty of up's and down's in Life, it's just the way it is. Im Happy that Maverick is bring me in , and ill be happy to work hard long hours & away from home. Im looking foward to making money and getting bills payed.
Im sure I will have bad days, or even occasionally a bad week, but oh well, ive seen that to many times in my life working for myself.
No company is perfect, but Maverick has a very good reputation in the industry, they are a top leading company. Only thru hard work and sacrafice do you or anyone get anywhere in life.
