30 Off Duty requirement question

I have to agree with this, the consecutive 1-5am periods is rather silly, especially for vampire drivers like you. I still think it should be a 48 hour reset, period, and that's that. I don't think people should be forced to drive nonstop, everyone deserves a weekend.

 

Weekend at the shipper or a fuel stop with no showers and food. What a weekend.

 

Yeah, I know, but most times you can find a place to hang that's better than those options.. Or do you just like being worked constantly without breaks?

 

I have spent the 34 at those types of places. When you are where you need to be, kind of hard to just drive around and look when the only fuel stop is right there. Park thinking it has a shower and no luck and nearest food other than the cold subs in the convenience part of the store.

Not like you can just drive anywhere.

 

This 34-hour ordeal is far from ending because it needs a whole lot more researching and reengineering before anything gets changed. One of the main reasons why the new law requires (2)..am......requirements is because that's the worst hours for most drivers. I always did my best in avoiding these hours when driving.

 

Geez, hopefully you're not parking on a on/off ramp because most of those places are unsafe. many times, I've seen law enforcement (both local and state) waking drivers up that park in this manner and handing them tickets.

Honestly, the 34-hour rule isn't foolish at all, and It certainly does have its fair share of pros and cons for some drivers. Some carriers are more effected with this requirement than other carriers. I've ran very hard for the majority of time spent in long-haul. I will gladly take 34 hours off-duty in return for getting all my hours back. Another pro, I have always hated driving between the hours of 1 - 5 am.

 

And me between 5 and 7 is my worst it dont matter if I have been up 1 hr or 16 eyes want to close between 5 and 7. Each and everyone of us is different so no rule will ever cover us all and keep us from needing to drive during our hardest part of the day I know people that from 9pm to 3am no matter what its lights out. Plus this 1-5 if I need to drive sends me into rush hour traffic where leaving at 11 the night before I could avoid and take my 2hr on split between 5 and 7 like I used to.
I know my body and no one else does so let me do what keeps me and everyone around me safe.
The only time I really hate the 30min is when I am less than an hr away from my 90 when the 8 comes around or close just keeps me up an extra 45 min between finding a spot parking and getting rolling again.

 

Ended up napping 3hrs, that is very rare for me. Thankfully I work for company that lets me do basically whatever I want, I'll run hard but stop when I HAVE to.

 

Well, don't forget that 1-5 period is your home terminal time - not local time.

My home terminal is west coast, Pacific time zone, yet most of my loads are in Central or Eastern.
That means 4-8 AM periods if I'm out east.
It still means coming back on-duty during rush hour.

But those that are based out east have it the other way around.
Their AM periods might be 10 PM to 2 AM local Pacific time, so they would be back in the wee hours.
