Most peoples idea of a long trip is nowhere near just the average day for a OTR trucker. If you have a problem now wait till you do it day after day.
Those intentional distractions some suggest only work so well and in the age of in cab cameras are going to get you in trouble. -

If you have this stuff going on now.. the same state of mind will happen no matter what you drive unless you change it yourself...

. Satellite radio was a huge help for staying alert and fighting boredom. Also hands free cell phone conversations, I've spoke to friends (drivers) for hours, most of us used Sprint and it was free Sprint to Sprint calls back then. I think our longest nonstop conversation was 6 hours or so. And back in the day we could have civil conversations on the cb to pass the miles.

Wresting conscious control of the attentional spotlight and maintaining "concentration" on "driving" is hard, that's why most people wouldn't do it even if they knew the difference in "motoring" and "driving".
The better driver you are, the more mistakes you commit, because your standard of "mistake" is ~infinitely greater than is typical, and because you're paying attention your "driving' is just a constant series of mistakes.
The typical motorist recognizes but 2 mistakes: 1. Crashing. 2. Getting a ticket. And both of those are always the fault of someone or something else, so essentially nothing is easier than being a great driver. -
