Uk driver

I have been here since the late 80s. First thing I did was to retake my licence wasnt transferable then, doubt it is know. Will be a one day training test. They do it in groups as well can be cheaper. The test is not much different than a uk one, on the road, questions and a reverse around cones. Would suggest you get a crash box endorsed licence, as the rr 18 spd is the box of choice.
Fridges if you can tell a prospective employer that you know all the relevantstuff might be advantageous, especially if you know about fault finding etc.
Cpc irrelevant over here and few will know what you are on about!
Load restraint knowledge is handy, chains etc. Wt per device. Australia is a bit a--- so dogs etc are banned in lots of places.

Lik3 most places there is plenty of work, just need to get a foot inthe door and make cintacts and decide where what you want to do.
My first job in oz was at a council, with a rigid and small machinery pig trailer, they couldnt find a driver with a semi licence so voila straight in.
Appplying straight of for an interstate job, a bit hardas you will needso knowledge of the states peculiarities and there are man.
Lot of seasonal work as well. Tippers inharvest time etc.
Be prepared to start off with maybe old trucks and less than optimal pay, but if you are a good operator others will note and other jobs will open up.
In a nutshell it will depend on you. Nightsaway there can be lots in some spheres, so family etc. Locationin oz some places are crying out for drivers.
There is a common job that uses lots of agency drivers and that is changeovers. Adelaide to Melbourne chnage in Nhill. Sydney Melbourne change at Tarcutta. This is so trucks are back in hometown everyday, so another driver can use truckfor loading etc.
If you are onfident in a drawbar and drag here we call them truck and dog, thenthere are lots of openings. Mind they are used differently over here andat much bigger weights as tippers, but if you canreverse one around asite openingswill be substantial.
To finish the b double is big over here and an m/c endorsed licence, is very advantageous, especially interstate. This stands for multi combination, more than 1 trailer. This generally means you need a semi licence for at least a year. But your age? Previous experience might allow you to take this licence straightoff. Same sortastuff, practical, theory and reverse test.
As anywhere pay and conditions can vary substantially. 40 k to 120 k a year. Mines etc are a different kettle of fish. Big bucks =hard work and long hours.
Me i have no regrets about my choice, except on the odd mon, tue.......etc lol

 

We looked into moving to Aus a while ago, and I am pretty sure that for employment based visas the cut-off age is 45.
I don't know if that significant to you Nikon, I'm too polite to ask your age : )
