Careful, on another thread she said she was in the service. She can likely kick all of our collective a55es.

It doesn't take a "big" girl or boy to do this. That would actually be a severe hindrance.

75% off the effort in tarping is actually done before you even know what kind off load you will use your tarps on.
Meaning that the way the tarp is folded is the most important part.
Folded the right way you can open a tarp in 2 minutes, then all that is left is to secure it on the ground.

All good advice here reddove..The best suggestion though IMO is don't worry about time so much-as doing it right. Not much sucks more than having to pull over on a shoulder and "fix" your tarp job. Not a minor fix...I mean fix.
Don't ask me how I know...:) Tarping is; as with other things-the more you do it-the more proficient you will get at doing it.

BTW..My very 1st flatbed job 10yrs ago there was a 5ft nothin kinda chubby female who we always seemed to meet on our steel backhaul home out of Chicago.. "She" was somethin..and I say that with nothing but respect..

Hmm, who do you drive for? I assume not Melton or Maverick as both of them told me that I would have to toss that 120lb tarp up on a steel coil at around the 6' mark. To answer your question, back in the dark ages it would take me an hour to get lumber tarped the way I wanted it. Steel was a little faster.

I'm telling you now not me or any truck driver I've ever seen can pick up a 120lb tarp and toss it 6ft up I'll be happy to put money on this!!! I'm 6'2" 285lbs and solid and I've been brave before and thought I could toss my little tarp up on top of a 6ft load on the flatbed and didn't make it at all if anything I hurt myself trying!!!

Hmm, that is interesting, I thought I was getting my chain jerked, but what the heck did I know. Maybe we can get a Melton driver and a Maverick driver to tell us all about the PT test in orientation.

most people hate tarping. sucks even worse when your not paid. and even more so when it's one load after another.

some people can do it fast. some people just don't have no ambition. you can tarp faster in cooler weather then hot weather. calm weather vs. windy weather. you'll really hate the tarps if your in the rain.

If they require all drivers to do that at orientation they have lots of lawsuits they may require drivers to lift a tarp over there head but they durn sure not telling them to toss them 6ft on top a load.

I had a supervisor tell me to hold one of those heavy tarps and stand on the headboard and throw it across the load. I just looked at him and said "Show me what you mean". Of course he said this after a safety meeting that stressed the three points of contact rule.

While on the subject .....does your company allow you to use pallets for your tarps? I just had a tow motor put them on top of the load.
