Or are you such a Super Trucker that the speed limits simply don't apply to you?!
I know, I know.
Your time is just TOO valuable. -
I don't speed anymore, I can't. I live and drive in Ohio. Speeding here is a nightmare situation.
I've not earned myself a ticket in almost 3 years now, I follow the rules anymore.
I was simply pointing out that Ohio is very well known to give no quarter to guys not paying mind to the speed limit.
I'm not a super trucker, and do not appreciate the assumption that I am one considering how seriously I take my job, what I've been through over the past 3 years with prof. driving and everything that entails.
Oh, and BTW- all the speeding tickets on my record, atm? Yeah, those are all on my personal vehicle. Not a CMV. -
Back in the 70s between Shreveport & the state line I got stopped by a Louisiana Trooper for going 56 in a 55 MPH speed zone. I was surprised for sure, but I tried my best to be very nice & polite to him. he chewed me out over & over about Arkansas trucks coming to his state & speeding. He said Im tired of it & I am not going to let anyone get away with it. He stated, I bet you dont even have enough money to pay this ticket!
I asked him how much it would cost & he said 72.50, I pulled out my billfold & I had 5 dollars in it. Seems he said, thats what you Arkansas truckers do, you drive though my stated like a bat out of hell & dont even have the money to pay the ticket.
4 or 5 times during this conversation he put his pen to his ticket book as if he was going to write me a ticket, but stopped & started chewing on me again.
When he found out I only had 5 dollars he told me he would have to take me to the jail & I would have to call someone to come down & bring cash to get me out of jail.
He nearly wore out my patients with me being kind & polite, but I bit my lip & kept my cool. After about 30 minutes of chewing me out he said, Im going to let you go this time but if I ever catch you again running so fast in my state I will put you in jail.
Texarkana to Shreveport was one of our major runs hauling bulk cement & thankfully he never stopped me again. We ran about 40 to 50 trucks & after this I found out he had stopped several of our trucks, Southern Cement Transport out of Okay, AR, many times & did them the same way with them for only going 1 to 2 MPH over the speed limit. One of our drives was not very nice to him & he had to call in & someone had to drive down with the cash to pay his ticket of going 2 MPH over 55 MPH to get him out of jail!
At times it can be very easy to get a speeding ticket, undeserved, & it seems most times the judge will believe the state trooper & not us, especially if we are out of state.
