Hey guys, I just accepted a line position with Reddaway in Las Vegas, Nv. And I start in two weeks. I guess I'll be starting on the extra board. I've been with Schneider for over 23 yrs now. My main worry is whether or not I'll have steady work and no layoffs, after reading parts of this thread. Hoping I haven't made a mistake. Any Vegas drivers here. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Congrats & good luck. I've been with YRC for 2 years now & still really like it. I'm lucky that the Indy terminal is a good terminal. Last Winter we had zero layoffs here. Anyway, hope the Reddaway terminal in Vegas is a good one. Good luck.
Nah never heard back but quit UPSF. got another job, operates and laid back as or more than YRC. It's a smaller regional carrier for the Northeast. I'm a p/d driver for the,pm, their Linehaul runs didn't wow me and are quite short and would have to do 6 days a week to make money
Well, good deal ACH. Things are still real good at this terminal. I've got to do some hard, deep thinkin though (should I stay or should I go). Everyone is hiring. The economy seems to be picking up. Know some guys over at OD. Sure sounds like a good outfit over there. Wish YRC would get their act together; I really like the job. Hard to go. I will stay for awhile longer. See if they can make some money. If they come back to us with, "oh wo is us, we need more givebacks", then I will be the first to leave.
Don't know about ODFL line haul. I would say try NEMF but they aren't in Indiana. ABF is still good though, but hard to get on with
I have been at ABF for three years doing local pick up and delivery in Boston They are no better than anyone else except the pention we got to keep.12 hours a day and 1 week vacation a year.Don't plan on having a life outside of work.On my third wife all distroyed by 28 years of trucking
Man, I can only imagine what that's like. I'm sure glad our terminals out east don't send us midwestern guys on P&D deliveries in Boston, Brooklin, The Bronx, etc...
Long time no post... I'm driving feeders for UPS (seasonal)... rumor is they need more drivers than they can get. I know they are hiring as fast as they can at 81st street in indy. They say we all have a better than average chance at permanent feeder jobs. Retirements, cancelled contracts with owner/operators, etc is making a huge gap (they need 40-80 more). $30/hr + overtime for anything over 8 hrs for us "wannabes". Just a thought squonk...YRC would always take you back because they need drivers so bad. I brought home over $1,000 for a week with less than 40 hrs because of OT ! Downside: they are hardcore on time, safety, and appearance...but with money like that and in my own bed everynight, I'm ok with it.
