The machine and mask with headgear are medical devices. To purchase this in the USA u need a prescription from your doc.

unless you buy one used from a 3rd party, check ebay and you will find plenty.

I work for a large company. Have an ahi of 9. Their doc said no cpap needed , gave me a year card, company said no I have SA and must use machine according to their third party sleep company. I am overweight, but no high blood pressure or diabetes. Life as not been the same since. Its a shame how downhill my life has gone. Tired all the time. its a nightmare!! I do know drivers with ahi of 30,80,even 144 and they say the machine does wonders. i am glad for them and know it can help people. We all have some form of SA. This is really starting to spin out of control. Good luck all.

If I have apnea and am complient with my machine and carry proof of usage from my doctor, will Marten accept that, or still have to use their AT&T machine?

Marten REQUIRES monitored electronic compliance daily, so unless your machine is setup to "call" Marten....then you'll need to use theirs.

All this "sleep apnea" hullabaloo is incredibly ridiculous, but it does serve industry well, doesn't it. It enriches both apnea machine producers and health care professionals alike, while at the same time distracts attention away from the elephant, namely drivers being forced to drive at all hours according to some equally ridiculous HOS rules. Hurry up Dutch people, please automate the whole enterprise soon and put us all out of our misery! :yes2557:

I just finished Marten orientation and was flagged for sleep apnea. I went back to the hotel with their simple home study that attaches to your wrist. Was called a day later by the doctor and told I was negative for it.

How is this a scam? When i asked them about it I was told the testing and cpap machine are free as long as you stay employed with Marten.

    Someone explain this "scam"

people are getting tested everywhere for it now not just Marten, this past year my fleet has had a few people go get their physicals and they now check for the neck size etc. I did my physical like a month before they started some of this stuff.

Anj, there is no accurate way to diagnose sleep apnea other than obvious sleepiness, self diagnosis, which drivers are loathe to do. Therefore driving companies are just making up their own diagnosis tools. Many of them are using neck size.

You can diagnose sleep apnea by neck size like you can diagnose diabetes by feeling the bumps on someones head - which is to say YOU CAN'T.

On top of that, some companies have a doctor who office inside their facilities and who is compensated based on the number of "patients" they discover - an obvious conflict of interest. As a driver, once you're designated as having sleep apnea (even if diagnosed incorrectly) you will never, ever have that removed from your medical file and you'll be breathing like Darth Vader every night for the rest of your life.
