Hey Milktanker, I found a local job in Montana paying $17 an hour to start, but I'm trying to work them up to $20. Do you think that someone could live well in Montana (Bozeman Specifically) on $17 an hour. It seems like unless i got at least 50 hours a week it'd be pretty tough.

it would be doable, you wouldn't be getting rich for sure but you would be doing a lot better than most. Seems like average wages are around $13 an hour max so if you got offered $17 that's good cash if they have the hours to match. Thinking of relocating?

One of the points of getting into this line of work was getting out of CA :D. I got a friend in Bozeman who's been trying to get me to relocate there since we met last summer. Everytime I get through Bozeman with some Extra time we're
fishing, shooting, wheeling, checking out the local spots etc... He offered me a place to stay if i get this job for dirt cheap and he lives about a mile and a half from my prospective new job so i could snowshoe to work during the winter LOL.

I'm just trying to figure out what the actual cost of living is. I've never lived alone in a house and covered all the expenses that go along with it as i was a college student living at home prior to this career. Supposed to interview with them next time i go through Bozeman which I'm thinking should be next week presuming i DH back to Spokane and grab a kaiser load going East like usual.

If you've got a cheap place to stay I would say go for it. Also there is no sales tax in Montana so that saves cash. Bozeman might be a bit pricier because of the proximity to west Yellowstone, but I can't imagine it's any more expensive than whitefish is for me

I was running out of billings at $21/hr. Bozeman thinks it's a large city and the cost of living reflects that. Beautiful city though..

I've been stuck on the load from hell all week along with three other drivers.

Sat around all day last Friday in Spokane waiting for an OD Haakon load going to Victoria. BC.. Finally got loaded at 21:00 and left it sitting at Haakon. Delivery was originally set for Monday morning but got pushed to Tuesday late morning and dispatch wasn't sure who might actually take the load at that point.

Come Monday I found out I was sticking with the load, so I got ro sit around all morning waiting for permits.

Come Tuesday morning all four loads are sitting at the border not cleared through customs. By the time they got the loads cleared, the consignee was forced to cancel the crane he had waiting and all our ferry reservations had to be rescheduled.

The only time available Wednesday for the crane was 13:00.

After we finally get unloaded, we're informed by dispatch that no ferry crossings were available for Wednesday so we get to spend another night and cross in the morning.

    Talk about a paycheck killer.

Looks like I'm taking a34 here in port Huron Mi. Made my delivery in Toronto this morning then made it back across the border to here with 4.5 hrs left on my 70. Been a good week, 3700 miles and border pay. Gonna be a good payday. Asked Brett to run my ##### off for a few weeks before my vacation and he is doing a fine job so far

Glad to hear things are working out for ya over there. I got to set a new mileage record for one work shift coming down from Fort Mcmurray. 717 miles in 12.5 hrs. I could have done it quicker if i had not taken the scenic route 1 west out of Calgary and down 93, but the views made the minor delays well worth it. My record for the US is 691 miles in 10h and 57M.

They gave me a legal concrete outhouse going to a boat launch in BFE Wyoming going right by my new job with plenty of time on it :D. They must be pretty desperate to get rid of me that they are helping me get my new job lol. Should have some time for fishing as well.
