    No I have a job and also need sleep. I'm trying to speak up because I've had friends affected with tfw's. your right though, I haven't really been effected except when I was looking for a job at the beginning of my career. I'm trying to keep them out though also so I'm not effected down the rd.

    no I'm not conducting an investigation , just asking the op to back up her claim...that TFWP holders coming to Canada receive company training from trucking companies ,all they receive is a flight and the cost of the work permit ..all training has to be paid for by employee including his or her accomadation

    Maybe I would be insulted if driving was my primary means of living. I have a college education and I am working in mid-management position at the age of 24. I am driving a truck out on my vacant days IF I want to. And I am doing it just because I like it so much and for the respect of my previous generations (3rd generation driver). Some extra cash for building my house is also nice.

    So none taken and I think I am not on the top of latter yet. Although I have the best girl on the dancefloor already .. can`t see no progress there.

    ok, great-honestly- you get to play on weekends but, what do you care if some folks arent happy with their lot ? your're good, got things set fine and dandy- but these other folk mostly trapped in otr world are stuck. union rep seems so weak that masny wonder if their in cahoots with the bosses, politicans have bought big time in to the lie that help make the tfw such a big problem in the industry. yes, people dont like whinners- but these are not whinners, these are folks who know only the road as the way of life and seeing that way become so seriously marginalized that they are being forced to contemplate leaving and seeing how few doors are open for them. These drivers have every right to complain; and most industry and politician should be glad the fractous independence of drivers as a whole prevents them from taking any real action in response. even the tfws are cornered by their own, if you dont like it, leave, someone else is here to take your place. this is why they drive mostly unsafe units.

    Under increasing public scrutiny for screwing Canadian workers, Unemployment Minister Jason Kenney today announced the Temporary Foreign Worker program will be going full steam ahead and the Government of Canada will be having joyous unbridled foaming-at-the-mouth, rough, sweaty anal pleasure with Canadian workers. Bend over citizens! Maybe if you are lucky you will be able to train your Temporary Foreign Worker replacement before you are fired!

    Lower wages have already arrived.
    interests in the industry have repeatedly complained of a driver shortage. They run old equipment and cannot figure out how to keep drivers.
    I have seen fleets as small as 13 units that are complaining about a driver shortage. If you cannot find 13 drivers you have a management problem,not a driver problem. Its these types of incompetent owners that are helping to drive the "myth".

    The other issue is professional recruiters. They need drivers and a large enough number to "cycle through" in order to be providing clients with product(drivers) so they can continue to be paid. Many companies are hiring these recruiters as "safety personnel" knowing that these recruiters work for more than one transportation company, but as long as the driver tap is open and flowing they're happy.

    The only shortage in this industry is $$$. I ran my own equipment in 1980, but $0.25/mile was an average rate in Ontario for a driver if you had experience. Allowing for inflation, that $0.25/mile equals $0.76/mile in 2014 dollars. Offer that kind of mileage rate along with accessorials and watch qualified drivers beat down your door.
