Can someone tell me what all these trucks up in MI running up and down 75 are pulling with the 8 axle trailers? What do all the extra axles allow them to get away with? Gross over 80k, or just allow them to spread all the weight over the trailer axles? Only seem them up there in MI and I have seen them every once in a while in OH. Very curious but always forget to ask.

I believe they are allowed 160,000 gross and the call them centipedes cause I believe they have 8 axles. I think Indiana and Ohio have increased weight for guys hauling steel also, but not as high as Michigan.

Most time they are hauling steel, or bulk ag products or steel

Those are 'Michigan loads'. Michigan has a maximum load limit of 164,000 lbs provided you have 11 axles to spread it out over. A lot of it is steel, I think some gravel and other bulk materials, and a smattering of other freight thrown in just for good measure. Due to proximity, Ohio has designated a very limit number of routes, mostly in the Toledo area, that these loads can travel on provided they are coming in-state or going out-of-state directly from/to the destination.
tynodine and dieselfuelonly Thank this. -
Tearing up the roads is what there doing.

see canadian trucks set up like this too. totally chewing the roads up and takes them quite a bit to get up to speed.

Its rare to see one under 120k
dieselfuelonly Thanks this.
