Job leads/advice on positions for a woman to apply thats entry level in/near Oilfield

If your looking for jobs not related to the oil field, I know that the bar in Killdeer, ND is hiring waiters and bartenders and starting them at $25/hr. Pretty much every store and gas station is looking for cashiers. Other then that I know places like MBI has jobs like H2S relief, dispatch, and Safety positions that are perfect for women. They don't involve heavy lifting or getting dirty for the most part.....

Before people start with the trollin, I know women can do hard jobs I just figured this was what the OP was looking for.....

One thing to consider about the Midland/Odessa area is housing. It is incredibly high. If you have the option or means, I would suggest getting a travel trailer or 5th wheel and live in that for a while. It will be much more affordable. Once you and your husband are both down here and working, if you choose the Midland/Odessa area, then you will have good money coming in and can look for more permanent housing. We are looking at doing the same thing after October. We are waiting only because we have vacation already planned. We currently live in Lubbock, but are planning on getting a trailer and staying there during the work week and then coming home on the weekends. We both have our CDL's with Tanker/Hazmat, so we will both be looking at driving jobs. Best of luck and keep us posted as I will be following this!

 

I hope no one minds if I camp on to this thread. I'm an older woman, not a truck driver, but reading these forums to glean anything I can about the Bakken. I've been on another forum and learned a lot, but yet it is hard to get anyone to respond to questions there. I am hoping that you don't mind helping out here?

I know that the winters are terrible, along with the wind chill factor, and is often below zero. I've read that you should have every bit of skin covered. I am moving from Idaho, so I am used to the snow, but I know it is much worse in ND.

I have read all about the housing shortage and the restrictions for sleeping in vehicles.

When my house here sells, which won't be before October and can be anytime after, I hope to jump in my pickup and head there. I plan to live in my pickup as long as I can stand it, even after getting a good job. I don't want to clear the same money, I do here, but more, so that I can get out of debt. If I can find some way to live cheaper than an RV spot at $800-900 a month, I might take what I find.

I'd like to ask questions as I think of them, if you guys don't mind. My first question is this: I have a crew cab of which I can make me a bed on the floorboard. I plan to bring down comforters and sleeping bag and blankets. I was thinking of getting a Buddy heater of some type and leave my propane tank in the bed of the truck and put the hose through the window and figure out where to set the heater. Maybe hang from the window? I am wondering if I will get too hot or too cold doing this. Has anyone tried it or know of someone who has? I am also wondering where I could find somewhere to park. Parking in town probably would get me run off and in the outskirts of town may be dangerous. Farther out could mean freezing to death if I could not start my truck. I m hoping to find the edge of someone's property. And join the gym for showers and exercise.

I am thinking of starting out in Minot or Williston. I want the highest pay, with the highest take home wage I can get. I know how to work hard. Sometimes working smart pays more. Either way, I can do it. I may take anything to get started so that I don't have a gap in wages, but I shoot for the top, and I usually make it pretty close.

I have never received certification and had a job for this, but I can fix computers. I am good at software. I teach computers to others and am used as a resource on all my jobs.

I am usually hired as an administrative assistant or HR assistant, which is what I enjoy. I am skilled at spreadsheets and databases and have worked at such companies as Intel.

I have found that applying for jobs, even with a top notch resume, I get ignored because I am not there. I can not get a Post office box until I get there. I'll have to quit my good paying job here and hope for the best there. I will be coming with no savings, probably just enough gas and food to last a couple weeks. Yes, I am foolish. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

I know that some jobs provide housing, and am hoping for that, or one that would allow a small camp trailer out back, which I could bring with me, if I had a cheap place to park it.

Where should I go to get the highest pay, most hours, and survive? I am clean living and highly principled. I prefer to live alone, but may have to room with others. Advice welcome. Sometimes the worst locations provide the best opportunities. I usually make at least $36,000 a year, even in small towns, so I should make more than that there above the cost of living factor. I am willing to start at the bottom. I've done it before. What towns should I consider? Tioga, New Town, Dickinson, Williston, Minot, Watford City, Killdeer, or ???

 

I don't know anything about the job side of it for you. But, be very careful with that Buddy heater in a confined space. You can wake up dead with those things. I do know people who have used them for years to heat vehicles. They leave a window cracked open. How much? I don't know. Just be careful with it.
