    Hello UPS'ers

Just got hired as a FULL TIME feeder driver (tractor-trailer) at UPS Parcel and am very excited but nervous as well. When I met with HR she said that the overtime would be pretty much limited for a while. I've been in trucking not too long but long enough to know that a eight and skate is a rarity on most days. If any feeder drivers could chime in that would be great. This is a premium job and have worked hard to keep my nose and license clean so an opportunity at UPS would not be out of reach. Also just to clarity I'm not a current employee transferring into feeders but an off the street hire so my seniority is zero.

Right now I work in a unionized LTL with plenty of overtime opportunities and make a decent weekly take home with the OT. Once I get started I plan on posting how things are going for a new UPS'er.

You have THE best driving job in the country. But you better realize that you are the lowest driver in seniority in that building, you will live by the phone, take what other drivers have turned down, work under a bunch of rules and you might face being laid off at times. Keep your nose clean and hang in there. This will be a 5 day work week job and home everyday. You will be paid for everything you do, some buildings pay by the hour, others by the miles, plus hour pay for extra work. Great benefits, good job security.

Consider yourself very fortunate by getting this job. If I was a young man and wanting to drive for a living, I would sit on their doorsteps every morning until they hired me.

Grouch - Thanks for the reply

I was blown away when they called for an interview. Your so right when you said keep your nose clean. This was a HUGH factor in them even considering my application. Hopefully there are some overtime opportunities for the "new guy".

I've heard they are starting to hire off the street. Friend of mine back at UPSF was ready to quit and get rehired at Parcel for it. I haven't spoken to him in a while but I hope he got on

ACH1130 I am a YRC guy right now as well. It really is a good place to drive but with the 15% giveback and the pension I figured give UPS a shot and see if they call and sure enough they did. If you don't mind I have been following your posts when you started over at UPSF so I figured I would start a thread with parcel. Just figured a few postings of what its like being the new guy starting over there.

They are hiring off the street from what they mentioned. Basically demand is so high they have exhausted all of their package car drivers with CDL. So they have to go to the street. I got extremely lucky with this and hopefully others have lots of luck as well. Just hoping to get some overtime with them.

Yes YRC was a great place to work at. But same thing with the givebacks and all. UPS and UPSF are completely different. UPSF we were the unwanted step-children. I have left UPSF and been gone two weeks now, and haven't turned back to look. Yea I had some great friends there but it was just too much for me. I'm working g at a smaller regional LTL company now, worked less hours and made more money and I'm only making 30 more cents a hour. They treat me well, but I just go in and do my thing and they don't bother me, but I'm not sitting around goofing around either. Yea UPSF might be the highest paid but there a reason for that. Also my job now the pension is the same if not better than UPSFs right now. A lot of the senoir guys are very upset about it

By going to parcel I will be making about the same as YRC is paying right now. In a year or two YRC won't be even close with some overtime and some seniority at Parcel. I feel very bad for the YRC guys with 15-20 years in the place. Hopefully they get things turned around and get the pension back. Without the pension this job is simply not worth it. That was a major reason I started looking at Parcel in the first place.

You are right about earning your money at UPS. No doubt about it you will work your butt off but in time it will be well worth the sacrifice. Looking forward to making probation and working hard to make a decent living for my family.

The guys who have their time in before YRCS 2008 contract already have their pensions vested so they will get it they retire. New hires are getting nothing as of now
