florida sucks

Florida "sucks," California "sucks".....Are there any beautiful warm states some of you people actually like?

 

The 1-2 year experience is a requirement from the insurance company. That can be negotiated. The company that hired me, had to convince the insurance company to cover me. They did cover me and I was hired, but I was told that one ticket in the first year, whether it be in a CMV or a personal vehicle, and they would drop me. Six more months and I will have completed one year. I am really starting to get more cautious as I get closer.

If the carrier is willing to take a higher premium to hire someone, that can all be negotiated on a case by case basis.

 

The problem is not the companies, It's the lack of experience you have. There are thousands of companies willing to hire today!

Now, you must choose which mega fleet training company to attend ( it don't matter, cause they're all the same). Do stay employed at the carrier for at least 2 years....forget about one year, Two is what it takes to get on with a good company. If they want less than 2 yrs experience then they are just hiring seat meat (steering wheel holders) and not worth their weight in salt. BTW, stay away from promises, get everything in writing (contract) and keep a copy so you don't forget what the terms of employment are. Failure to understand / abide by the contract can and will result in a lawsuit/breach of contract with you personally liable for damages or losses in excess of the equipment and value of the load. Which can mean they can put a judgment or lien on your personal assets.

I'm coming up on a year's experience (10 and a half months currently and counting) and I live in SW Florida around the Fort Myers area (about 100 miles south of Tampa/ 150 miles north of Miami). I'm hoping I can find either some local work or a route in Florida or AT LEAST Southeast(U.S.) regional once I get a year under my belt.

 

Lol been down here for the last 9 months and so ready to pack up and go and never look back!!

Check with the Food Service companies such as Sysco or USFood. You will be taking two wheels stacked with cases of food and going into restaurants and loading/rotating their freezers. Most truck drivers don't like it because it involves physical work other than driving. I tried getting on with USFood in 2009 when I was laid off from my LTL road job and they would not look at me because my 5 years of road experience meant to them that I would most likely quit shortly after training. A friend of mine works for Sysco and made $86,000 last year after 3 years with them. He said they are having trouble hiring drivers.

Living in florida may mean working for a company located out of state.

For years I worked for an outfit located in Westmont, Illinois, but lived in Ocala.

Hauled flowers, and made alot of real good money, and was never without work.

Florida is tough,

just requires more work on your part.
