This motor you have blew at 400k ... And you think you are making a good move at $24k, only to worry that you've only got 400k miles till it may go again. I agree that a 6nz may cost you $20k also but what a truck it will be. Way way better roi!
what would you do c 15 cat problem?????

I'd tow it home and find an independent shop that will rebuild/swap it to a 6nz or find the cheapest identical salvage yard motor you can, put that in and sell the truck fast. Do not buy another cat with a DPF filter, they are the worst dpf engines out there.
-
How did you determine it was indeed #4 valve? I would have expected an exhaust sleeve I have seen those take the twins out in a hurry. Such a waste of good yellow paint.
-
The shop where its at showed. You can see where it tore the num four cylinder up. There is a actual cat shop 20 miles down the road in NC that will do the work for 21,700 and that comes with a 4 yr warranty on the whole engine covers everything but sensors and drivetrain
-
If you rebuild . check or change air2air and verify DPF didnt get damaged it would suck doing a 22k rebuild and having another 5 to 10 k on top of it
-
Yea so is that something I need to make sure they check is the dpf system
-
if you're going to drop $21k on the rebuild you might as well check the DPF system over too. If the filter has never been cleaned it will probably need a cleaning at the minimum.
-
if it was full boost when turbos let go metal shards can damage ceramic filter in dpf
-
ok thanks for the heads up. cat will do the work 24 month no interest so that helps some
