You can try Conway, they will work you like a dog 14 hour days 10 hours off. When you get home Saturday morning you will not return to work until Monday afternoon. You might be able to survive a year to get a year of experience.

Check with the food service companies like Sysco or US Foods. They have a lot of trouble keeping drivers because most drivers don't want to unload trucks.

Try the moving companies like Mayflower, or United Van Lines. You can hire lumpers to do the heave lifting of refrigerators and freezers and your second year you could make 60K.

No wonder the industry is the way it is... between the bottom feeders and the self righteous ones tearing down the newbies (who admittedly made mistakes), any chance of a consensus amongst drivers is a pipe dream. If I was looking at starting a career from scratch, I would have to rethink my choice to be a driver these days.

Good luck to ya, Floating. Keep the shiny side up.

See now... I have a different view... I think it is very easy... almost too easy to make it at the megas.. they have so many resourses and so many departments.. that even if you screw up, you can make a few calls and get it fixed in your favor..

If you cant make it at a mega.. then you will only be a liability to a smaller company...

If I'd have to start again I'd do the same- it was fun.

I think alot of it is in the drama of the newbies.... I wouldnt say you were abandoned... you were put up in a hotel and paid ... abandoned.. no... Homeless veterans living on the streets are the ones abandoned..

To any new drivers looking to get into trucking, there is an abundance of jobs.
You have to wade through the sharks, and want to work.
Its not always gonna go how you think it should, but its gonna go.
I hope your doing well Fgears, and you will earn your stripes.
The times I had in my first year were scary, sketchy, and fun.
I don't wish bad on anyone doing this job,its a sacrifice, especially if you have family depending
    on you.
I joke with most of my posts, but will gladly help if I can offer any useful advice FGears.

Drama is on Werner using your own money to drive across country telling you they will pay you when you get to Texas But when you get to Texas they tell you like you should know it will be in your first pay check weeks away ...... Not good when you budgeted your families money for your training until you get paid weeks from that day.It sounds like drama and when they leave you in a hotel you call people supposed to be your contacts and the people that replace them neither know what is going on you have no answers no return calls just feel abandoned .Also not only you do not know how long you will be buying food for then you budgeted for .That's drama I didn't ask for in training .Now your also in a hotel not in the best hood , far from anything so you literally stuck in a room yes you will be paid eventually but this is training ....Not driving for two weeks wife and kids expecting you home it's new toMe it's very new to them too . Two weeks buying food and not seeing family just after three days down send trainee home why should he wait staring out the window with no answers .I'm not in the military it's trucking I'm a free man not person property of a company that hired you m just a truck driver trainee .It's the I'm the last to know what's happening to me every one else concerned is home at their home . Who cares I'm in limbo at a hotel ....it was after the weekend and 505pm when so one called to let me know ........ I was towed in on Thursday .It's abandonment not drama .Thanks to all I'm on my way to central fla this second I will see you all on campus . HOBO On !!!

What campus are you going to? Is it a job or back to school to try something else?
