Can anyone recommend companies in Washington State that hire new drivers? (Everett?)

James J. Williams is the tanker division of Systems Transport and they are under new management and start at $20/hr for local runs--mileage for further than 100 miles from terminal. You would be home every night and haul hazmat chemicals from the Kent Terminal into Canada and down to Northern Oregon. They run newer equipment --mostly Freighliners with daycabs.

The chemicals JJW hauls are mostly caustic acid and ammonia but sometimes spent acid and recycled oil. The start times are sometimes bad.....like 2 or 3am. However, that's about par for tankers. You'll wear a hazmat suit for all on and offloads which gets super hot in the summer.

JJW and TWT hire newbies. TWT is the refer division of Systems Transport and is OTR. Most of the guys there make peanuts as their bottom line. Both divisions require a 5 day orientation in Spokane. They pay for your hotel, gas (if you drive yourself), and as I recall, about $125 for the week.

Just to the OP: I'd look for a local small company close to Everette. There are many. Grab a fist full of resumes and hit the pavement ! (Have you tried Oak Harbor Transport?) Good luck.

System has a Genie fleet that runs back and forth between Redmond and North Bend. It might be worth checking into that.

I've come across trucking companies hiring for 'Regional' or 'Dedicated'. Does one get you home more often than the other? I'm definitely interested in having as much home time as possible.

Neither of the terms "regional" nor "dedicated" is sufficiently well-defined to answer your question about them with 100% certainty. They both have broad meanings, either one of which could supply what you're looking for.

The main distinction between the two is that "dedicated" usually implies one specific route that you repeat over and over whereas "regional" just means you operate in roughly 15 or fewer states/provinces (I pulled that number out of thin air...technically there is no specific number of states attached to the term).

With the above said, I think you'd be more likely to find what you're looking for in a dedicated run than doing a regional job. I run "regional" in the western 11 (for one of the companies listed in this thread) and only get home once every 3-4 weeks and not for very long.

Brownline is a great company if you don't mind running teams. They are based in Mt. Vernon, WA, so not too far from Everett. Pay is good and you are home weekly. They mostly run from WA to CA and back, hauling LTL loads of fresh and frozen seafood. Medium sized company. 50 or so trucks, not sure. Nice equipment, well maintained. I would be there, but they only run teams and I didn't like that.

Not sure if Brown will hire new drivers. Also they require that you have Tanker/Hazmat endorsements. I can't remember if they require Triple/Doubles but I know, for sure, on Tank/Haz.
Actually, if the original poster hasn't gotten 'em yet, I'd recommend getting all of your endorsements regardless of where you go. It seems pretty common for companies in WA to require all the endorsements regardless of what you're hauling.
If you are looking for home time, try checking w/ companies who have an intermodal division. Knight's has one in Kent but make #### sure you are on the schedule before you quit any other job. We got soooo burned. My husband was working w/ FFE (before recent buy out) and looking to up our income with home time and they told him he had the job. Got him in for the physical & drug test. All clear. Then had him over to take the driver's test. All clear. Told him he absolutely had the job, instructed him to put in his resignation w/ FFE, and stand-by for schedule and then...nothing. After two weeks of hounding them for answers, come to find out they didn't have a truck for him and was not going to be able to hire him. We had to scramble to get him on w/ another company because he'd already quit the other job. Honestly, I think this was just a one time cluster bomb where the recruiter and the hiring team screwed things up but I bring it up so that if you do check them out you proceed w/ caution.

Since it's just a matter of studying for and passing some written tests, none of which are all that hard to pass as long as you look at lots of sample questions right before, it only makes sense to get all the endorsements when you get your first CDL and then keep them current forever after.

I'd be very leery of going anywhere near Knight. Like the old saying goes, where there's a cluster bomb there's fire!

Not sure if Brownline and Brown are the same company. But I've worked at Brownline, and there were new hires in orientation with me. They do not require tanker, hazmat, or doubles endorsements. I did not have a hazmat at the time I worked there.
