My guess is that when your Fleet Manager received a call from corporate, he felt he needed to cover his behind by writing you up. The old "######" rolls downhill analogy. As a driver who been around this racket for almost 30 years, I will tell you this much though...You apparently waited until the last minute to get there on time to have dinner with your wife. I completely understand why you did that, but what ended up happening is that by the time you got empty it was well into the afternoon and there was probably no chance of them re-loading you so you had to wait until morning. Had you arrived earlier then you could have been re-loaded and on your way somewhere else instead of having to lay-over. Both you and the company lost money as a result. I am guessing that is why they hammered you. My advise is to do what you can to maximize your hours so you can make money and still run legally. In the end, that is why we are out here and with these ridiculous new HOS laws, it is getting tougher and tougher to do that every day. Best wishes and good luck in your trucking career.

Not that it really matters since right after that happened I fell upon a local tanker job and took it. But just to be clear I did not arrive at the last minute. I was there 6 hours before it was due and got reloaded out of there. Mcelroy is a deceitful company (probably just like most of them) and I'm thankful to have found a great job, I even thanked my fleet manager for encouraging me to look for a new job, after all I wouldn't be were I am now if it wasn't for him.Shadox Thanks this.

Yep your driver manager is covering his butt....McElroy is a crap company. -
His DM definitely was in the wrong, didn't do Grizz right at all. Some DMs are just jerks. When I was at McElroy I just made sure mine was very aware of the fact I did not work FOR him, but WITH him, & that if he screwed me, he was ultimately screwing himself. As to your "McElroy is a crap company" comment (& I have no idea if you've worked there or not), all I can say is that was not my experience there.Last edited: Jul 11, 2014

I'm speculating here, but my guess is he didn't make it through orientation.

I actually did work for McElroy, and I did make it through orientation. You can search my posts and see my experience there. I parted ways with them cuz they refused to give me a truck that would stay out of the shop. I know people that have worked there and really liked it, then again I also know people that have had a bad experience with them. I will say this however..If it was not for the training I received from MTL, and my work experience with them, I may not have the job I have today.
