My hats off to the majority of you drivers out there. We just drove round trip by car from Michigan to Oregon coast, mostly on I80 IL-UT, I84 UT-OR, a little I90 and I25 MT-WY, and US20 NE. Saw hundreds of semis but not even one accident, or even careless driving. Only one truck breakdown and 3 blown tires.
And 90% of trucks were going the speed limit.
We did see an RV tipped over on 84 in eastern Oregon but that was towed by a civilian in a pickup going too fast down a mountain stretch. And one car/pickup crash on US20. The most careless driving we saw was by cars zipping between vehicles, or tailgating semis as if they could push them out of the way.
Drove 2 wks in car I80 and I84, saw zero truck accidents

Drive it in the winter months....I-80 in WY has a bad reputation for a reason.
broodmom Thanks this. -
Yes about winter - lots of signs that say highway is closed when lights are flashing - used mostly during snow season I presume.

Thank you for the compliment

You should see what those RVs look like in Wyoming when the wind advisory is up and the knucklehead RV pilot carries on across the vast frozen tundra like he thinks he is driving a rally car.
Not much to tow when that 70mph crosswind gust hits him. RV looks like a tornado hit it. -
I dont smoke and I havent drank in ages, but if there is one thing that is going to take years off my life its the stress level i get when I am stuck behind those things with some 100 year old guy behind the wheel. If they are out there, I seem to find them every time and the thoughts that go through my head when I do.:smt077

Its too bad FMCSA doesn't do research and observe like this OP did.Instead they see one accident as a whole new list of HOS and laws.
-
Right, Patty - the big accidents get noticed and the day-to-day work gets ignored. Shoot, I bet there are tons of car drivers with sleep deprivation and sleep apnea on the road tonight, yet we don't have to have a physical to drive, we drive while tired, and sometimes with medical problems. And we cause accidents involving trucks.

They get home and find out the awning has been ripped off.

We all share the same roadways, its a shame we all don't share the same laws.
