Answer to this: Yes, it is that hard to have "ALL" of that, at all moments, that you choose to tap that screen. Impossible actually.

North America includes 9 million+ square miles.

    * Walmarts, strip clubs, casinos, rest areas, truck stops, etc open and close every day, somewhere.
    * Roads, addresses, exits, weights, heights, widths, hazmat regs, oversize regs, and length regulations change every day, somewhere.

I used Google Earth recently to zoom in on a large empty parking area in Oregon - when I got there it was a Walmart now. The Google image was old.

The DOT is a "government" agency. I don't know how closely you are watching how our government functions. But the delay between the time that East Podunk County, USA commission tells the state DOT that they changed the "no trucks on Main street" local law can be years, if at all.

So, what can the navigation companies and Google, etc do? They can strive to be correct "most" of the time. The one who is demonstrably correct more often than their competition, wins. The one who makes the most helpful other features, strongest hardware, fastest hardware, all at of course the lowest consumer cost, also wins.

That's why I said skip the casinos... besides, it's not like they're even needed in a GPS, anyway. You can't drive across a major interstate without getting bombarded with them.

Well. Actually, many drivers use them as layover points though. Even if they don't gamble. See pic example of one in Oregon on the I-5 main corridor after coming up the grapevine for instance. (Lot's O' nothing north and south of this location by the way.) I think that since it's no skin off a GPA map-maker's back, they should leave them in at least as a searchable POI category myself...

I just came across a promising truck nav app on the Google Play store called "Sygic Truck Navigation". It uses Nokia maps which is arguably as good as Google maps if not better. They're offering a 14 day free trial.

So, just some added info to this post:

    Nokia bought NavTeq.
Then changed NavTeq's name to "Here."
"Here" is the base map set also used on Rand McNally, Garmin, MS Streets & Trips, and many others.

In addition to the NavTeq ("Here") powered free and paid apps that you can put on your iPhone or Android, if you want to play with the "Here" maps for free with any web browser, click here: http://here.com/ (all puns are intended)

ps. Don't let Google hear you say that their maps aren't as good as NavTeq's or their put a drone over your house. lol.

looks like sygic overhauled their websight. i now have a log in with my purchase and code key.

wonder if i could use that for the truck version. :biggrin_25525:

other then having to be alert for the wrong streets. i've been happy with google. LOL.

in fact, i even used it to bypass the freeway blockade in california. as i was pressed for time to pick up and get out of there or spend the weekend.

good thing no CHP was on that road. cuz i got a LOT of fingers. :yes2557:
