Will the fake Viagra work on me if I don't know any better.
As for the turbo. No way. There's to many good places to buy a quality turbo from. Believe it or not right here within the mainland 48. They are made here and can be built to any hp setting you are going for. Don't mess with china turbos. I don't have any experience with them myself BUT most anything besides electronics from china is softer cheaper and will NOT last as long as an original made part from the USA.
If you go that route I think you should also put PVC exhaust pipes on along with the turbo.

I didn't miss your point, I just disagree with you. Your assumption that a Genuine part is better, is wrong IMO. We'll use EGR coolers as a example, OEM coolers a flawed in their design, while Bullet Proof Coolers are not, Bullet Proof Coolers are NOT OEM. Your assumption that because it has no name, and is manufactured in china, that it's somehow of less quality is wrong as well. You have no data to back up that that turbo will fail at any higher of a rate then OEM, however, take a turbo such as Holset, it's documented very well that the VGT does not hold up, and in 05-07 was failing at a very high rate. There are "knock off companies" that can and do take OEM products and improve upon them, or in the least build the same quality. Now all that being said, I wouldn't purchase it because there is no warranty info, but I have purchased knock off stuff from china in the past and still have it today.
-
It seems that you think there is not a difference in aftermarket and the no name stuff out of china in regards to turbos. If I were to go buy a holset to use on my cat it would be aftermarket, no different with borg warner or garrett. Watch the videos just on burst containment that holset has put on YouTube, if you still think using a no name chinese turbo is safe then more power to you.
-
Read my post, I said I would not use that particular turbo. I like you, have no proof to back up that a Chinese no name turbo is good or bad. My point was that people discredit products based on where they are made rather then facts. If it makes one feel better that the tag may say Holset then that's good. The fact is even Holset has stuff manufactured in China. You seem to equate name with quality & because a company such as Holset posts videos on youtube, then it becomes fact. I've owned countless Holset turbos and I have only owned three trucks with Holset turbos, so name doesn't equal quality. If you sleep better paying more to have something branded then more to power to you.
To add, I just watched the video and it's laughable. They show 2 "inferior" turbos explode, the video has got to be from the 80's, they didn't even say where they even came for all you know they could have been holset, and there is no data indicating speeds. Just saying!!Last edited: Jun 25, 2014

You understand that if they own the factory even if it is in china the part is being built to the standards that have been set for that factory and that specific part.
Any holsets I deal with are ones I am building for myself or for friends and the parts I have gotten all have been made in Great Britain, maybe it is just the series of turbo I am working with that means that the parts only come from one place, but that is my experience. -
I discredit anything out of metal stamped with China on it. From the tools to the parts. anything manufactured from China is made from cheaper quality, softer materials, with lower standards. Come look in my iron pile full of Chinese junk and tell me it's just as good. -
The key to this is the supply chain. If I stroll into my Detroit Diesel dealer and get a turbo, or any other part, manufactured anywhere, I have recourse. Not so with the average Ebay vendor. You can also source parts from many other places made in all sorts of strange places and do fine. Critical parts demand much greater scrutiny. Beware purchasing on price for anything.

I understand that, and I know that a specific standard is met, but it's conceivable that a no name company has a standard in place as well, and that standard may be better or worse then Holsets, we don't know. You understand that just because Holset or another big name isn't stamped on it, that it may not be inferior. From my personal experience with Holset, I wouldn't put another one on my truck. When the one dies that's on there, and given the history of a Holset it's expected to, I will replace it with a cartridge that's not a Holset. Are you rebuilding turbos with the same parts that are failing, have you tried any parts other then Holset? There is a risk no doubt, but I couldn't imagine replacing the same failing parts, with the same parts that will fail, because the company I'm buying the parts from that are failing, says that other companies parts will fail.
Take the myth about Chinese tires, everyone said they were garbage at one time, now they are becoming OEM. -
Then you better start discrediting a whole lot!!

If it comes unstamped how do you know it's from China? Follow that steel, I bet some if it made it's way into all our trucks. -
I agree 100%, but that's the risk.
