You pay into it yourself as much as you want.
If you withdraw before retirement age then you must pay the tax on the gains.
I bank at US Bank and they have some good ones to go with. When the market crashed a few years ago mine actually made money. -
Yes you can... Figure out your daily for the year for the amount of time you were out. Then subtract what the Company claimed. The difference you can still claim as the company will never match or exceed your daily rate. They exceed, they are dropped out of the program.tow614 Thanks this.

Yea that is true. Again I didn't clarify. The difference was never enough for me to bother with because I didn't have anything to go with it to claim. Don't have many deductions at all anymore since everything is paid off. You have to give them the first 2% of deductions and then a percent of the road expense too so I never bothered with it while I was on the road. Im retired now so don't have it anyway.

Thanks for all the replies... I kind of understand now and there are pros and cons to each
Per diem
More money per week
Less Gross yearly income
Could (potentially) affect loan requests since perdiem doesn't show up so you appear to make less per year
SSI will be lower for the same reason when you need it
So really, no offense to anyone here, but if you are older, its probably best to go with the perdiem. If you are younger, you should not take the perdiem to prepare yourself better for the future (if you can afford it of course). Im 34 with a wife and 2 kids. I think I will leave it alone because I can still make ends meet without the perdiem credits on my weekly check.
I appreciate all the advice and help!
