I know when I went through orientation, there was a rehire who roomed with me for a few days. He came back to TMC because they called him and said they were starting another new dedicated group of about 35 drivers for Alcoa. This group would be paid .38/mile starting and will pull only covered wagons. He said, "Sure I'll come back for that." He was told he'd still get home every weekend and possibly a night or two during the week, since they only hire dedicated drivers who live along the route of the account.

Do you know what the route is? And how far off of the route would the drivers need to be? -
I have been with TMC for a few months now and i have found out that it depends on the fleet manager if you make money or not.It sez on the web site that drivers average 900 to 1500 a week.Don't believe that.If you take the percentage, you get loads that don't pay.If you take the milage you get big paying loads that are short milage.

He has been out of a truck for several years around 6 years I think. He wants to start driving again, but he is finding it hard to get hired with a trucking company without recent experience. Does TMC hire anyone with over 700,000 miles under there belt, but no recent experience, or could he possibly take a short refresher course? There is a truck driving school in Asheboro, NC that offers a two week refresher, but he isn't going to waste his money if companies want consider the refresher. If TMC will not, does anyone know of any companies who will honor a short refresher and hire him after al this time out of a truck? Thanks for the assistance in advance!

First off, you got to realize what you want to do, Swift and TMC are two different types of trucking. With TMC you can expect to get very dirty every day, sweat your ### off by tarping, but get tarp pay at least, secure loads with can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours depending on what you are hauling. With Swift, you get riduculed by other drivers on cb, be sure to turn off cb at truck stops, drivers wont treat you with courtesy like they would other companies. You dont get tarp pay, you get paid less per mile, and from what I have heard, you struggle to get the few miles that you do, and 9 out of 10 trucks I have seen broke down on the shoulder are either Werner JB or Swift trucks.

I'll second the dirty/sweaty bit...you'll start to really look forward to hitting the truckstop for a shower. It gets really hot in places TMC picks up and delivers, and wrestling with tarps isn't fun in any weather. That being said, I'm enjoying myself. Worlds better than running foodservice. Tarp pay isn't anything to write home about, in fact I think it's somewhat insulting to be paid $10 to tarp, but it's not something I'm gonna get bent out of shape on.
