You can only depend on trucking once you get a job, until then don't become one of those who are desperate for work because you will end up with a crap job or crap company.

That's kind of how I got started driving. Started out driving triaxle dump trucks, then went to driving cement mixers, then moved to Tractor Trailer Bulk Tankers hauling dry cement, then the company I drove the triaxle for wanted me to come back to them pulling their Lowboy hauling oversized heavy equipment and the rest was history. Course that was a long time ago!LOL

As I understand it, the DOT requires a three year verifiable history. That's not to say you can't have unemployment but that it must be verified. Some companies will go beyond in the three years and yes they do check. Well. Mt advise is to be as thorough as possible on the app and give as detailed info as you can on any gaps.

I was told by a company that they had to verify the last 3 years but you have to show 10 years. He also told me that some companies don't really botgher with it while others check eveything. I had a 3 year gap and it wasn't any problem. Just supplied names and numbers of people who could verify what i was doing during that time.
